This work validates the generalizability of MRI-based classification of Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients and controls (CN) to an external data set and to the task of prediction of conversion to AD in individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). We used a conventional support vector machine (SVM) and a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) approach based on structural MRI scans that underwent either minimal pre-processing or more extensive pre-processing into modulated gray matter (GM) maps. Classifiers were optimized and evaluated using cross-validation in the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI; 334 AD, 520 CN). Trained classifiers were subsequently applied to predict conversion to AD in ADNI MCI patients (231 converters, 628 non-converters) and in the independent Health-RI Parelsnoer Neurodegenerative Diseases Biobank data set. From this multi-center study representing a tertiary memory clinic population, we included 199 AD patients, 139 participants with subjective cognitive decline, ance decreased only slightly when applied to the external cohort. We expect that this work on external validation contributes towards translation of machine learning to clinical practice.
Africa is the largest source continent of refugee children. However, we found no published synthesis of the literature on the health of African refugee children outside Africa. Conducting a review of the literature on this particular population will help illuminate the particular contextual health issues faced by African child refugees who live outside Africa. The purpose of this review is to synthesize what is known from the existing literature regarding the health of sub-Saharan African refugee children who live outside Africa.
We completed a scoping review of the published literature. We included articles published in English with a focus on the health of sub-Saharan African refugee children living outside Africa. We excluded studies of refugees in Africa as the living conditions of these refugees, most of whom reside in camps, are very different from those outside Africa. Using relevant keywords, we searched 10 databases to identify and screen 6602 articles after duplicates were eliminated.

Many children's hospitals have established 'recreation rooms' to help reduce distress among hospitalised children and families. We investigated recreation rooms in two Australian children's hospitals to determine 1) families' first use of the room (including discovery and delays); 2) characteristics of families accessing the room; 3) parents' positive and negative associations with the room; and 4) parents' most and least valued aspects of the room.
Using a concurrent mixed methods design, parents completed questionnaires (Restorative Experiences Tool, Parenting Stress Index-Short Form, Paediatric Quality of Life Inventory) and an optional interview. We analysed data using t-tests and multiple regressions (questionnaires) and content analysis (interviews).
Parents (n = 123) commonly reported delays in accessing the recreation room (n = 74, 60.2%). Parents' distress was positively related to their frequency of room use (r = 0.28, p = .001). Families of hospitalised children with lower physical (r = -0.36s of children with lower psychosocial and physical functioning. Dedicated areas for different age groups may help to improve accessibility of the recreation rooms.We present a Bayesian approach to probabilistically infer vertical activity profiles within a radioactive waste drum from segmented gamma scanning (SGS) measurements. Our approach resorts to Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) sampling using the state-of-the-art Hamiltonian Monte Carlo (HMC) technique and accounts for two important sources of uncertainty the measurement uncertainty and the uncertainty in the source distribution within the drum. In addition, our efficiency model simulates the contributions of all considered segments to each count measurement. Our approach is first demonstrated with a synthetic example, after which it is used to resolve the vertical activity distribution of 5 nuclides in a real waste package.Uranium and thorium as natural radioactive elements are present everywhere in the environment. Their trace levels are also present in various materials, such as copper, used as a shielding material in gamma-ray spectrometry, usually located very close to the detector. Ultra-low levels of uranium and thorium in electrolytic copper were determined in this study using radiochemical neutron activation analysis (RNAA) via their induced nuclides U-239/Np-239 and Pa-233, respectively. After irradiation of copper together with uranium and thorium standards, various techniques were used for their separation from the matrix. To isolate of short-lived U-239, solvent extraction in a combination of tributyl phosphate (TBP) in toluene was used. To separate Np-239 and Pa-233, extraction chromatography using TEVA and TK-400 resins was applied. Special attention was paid to the estimation of radiochemical recovery, which was determined in each sample aliquot using U-235, Np-238 and Pa-231 tracers. For quantification of induced nuclides and tracers used in the experiment, gamma-ray spectrometry was used. Obtained results showed that electrolytic copper samples contained impurities of uranium and thorium in ultra-trace levels up to 45 pg/g (550 nBq/g) for uranium and up to 80 pg/g (330 nBq/g) for thorium. The electrolytic copper also contained impurities of Ag, As, Au, Sb, Se and Zn as observed using the k0-INAA technique.Prior expectations influence how we perceive and recognize objects. However, how they do so remains unclear, especially in the case of real-world complex objects. Expectations of objects may affect which features are used to recognize them subsequently. In this study, we used reverse correlation to reveal with high precision how the use of information across time is modulated by real-world object expectations in a visual recognition task. We show that coarse information leads to accurate responses earlier when an object is expected, indicating that observers use diagnostic features earlier in this situation. We also demonstrate an increased variability in the use of coarse information depending on the expected object, indicating that observers adopt a more specialized recognition strategy when they expect a specific object. In summary, our results reveal potential mechanisms underlying the effect of expectations on the recognition of complex objects.
The negative consequences of parental substance abuse are significant and longstanding for children. Among other risks, these youth are more likely to experience housing instability. The most common predictor of a child not living with their biological parent is parental substance use. Research shows that these youth are at higher risks of housing instability; however, little is known about their housing experiences, from their perspective. This study explored the housing experiences of youth affected by parental substance abuse.
Fourteen African American young adults ages 18 to 24years old who identified having at least one biological parent with a history of substance use participated in this study. The study is based in Baltimore, MD, USA; an urban city with one of the highest rates of drug overdose and substantial disadvantage.
In-depth interviews were conducted among fourteen young adults (18-24) affected by parental drug use to discuss their housing experiences throughout childhood and adolescence. Five research team members developed a codebook, double coded all transcripts and analyzed inductively using a qualitative content analytic approach.
Three themes emerged to characterize housing experiences frequent housing transitions, repeated trauma exposures related to housing instability, and the lasting effects of housing instability.

Despite inclusion in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD), myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody (MOG-Ab)-associated diseases are increasingly recognized as an independent disease entity. In this study, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to comprehensively update the rate of occurrence of MOG-Ab in Aquaporin4 (AQP4)-antibody seronegative NMOSD.
We searched PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases for studies reporting the rates of patients with MOG-Ab in NMOSD. HTH-01-015 purchase Fixed or random-effects models were used to pool results across studies.

=0.0%). The pooled prevalence of MOG-Ab was 31.0% among Asian AQP4-Ab seronegative NMO/NMOSD patients (95% CI 22.1%-39.9% I
=54.1%) and 34.3% in European seronegative NMO/NMOSD (95% CI 21.9%-46.7%, I
=51.9%).
This study shows that MOG-Abs represent a substantial proportion of AQP4-Ab seronegative NMOSD patients despite different underlying mechanisms, clinical manifestations, and treatment response, suggesting MOG-Ab screening in AQP4-Ab seronegative NMOSD patients can facilitate accurate diagnoses and treatments.

The aim of the present study was to compare the accuracy of prosthetic alignment with three-dimensional computed tomography (3DCT) measurements following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) performed using a robotic-assisted surgical technique versus a conventional TKA.
41 TKAs were performed with a handheld robotic-assisted surgical procedure (Robot group) between 2019 and 2020. Another 41 patients underwent TKA with a conventional manual surgical procedure (Manual group) using the same prosthesis. The operation durations between both groups were investigated. 3DCT scans of the entire lower extremities were taken before and after the surgery and femoral and tibial alignments in the coronal, sagittal, and axial planes were measured using computer software. The differences in prosthetic alignment and translation between the preoperative 3DCT plan and postoperative 3DCT image were also measured.
There were no statistically significant differences in the post-operative outliers of the femorotibial angle between the groups.
