Smartphone users' posture can affect the musculoskeletal load of the user's neck. This study aims to compare the effect of the posture of using smartphones on head and neck angles among college students. The cross-sectional study was conducted among 80 college students. The Severity of Neck Pain (SNP) and the head and neck tilt angles, the gaze angle, and the amount of change in the forward head posture were determined. The angles were measured in three postures including standing, sitting on a chair with and without a backrest. Most of the participants (51.3%) reported moderate and severe neck pain. The angles during using smartphone had a significant difference in different positions, so that the best head (100.6 ± 11.3°) and neck (32.5 ± 11.2°) tilt angles and gaze angle (58.2 ± 13.7°) were in sitting position with leaning on a backrest of the chair. Head (109.6 ± 14.4°) and neck (22.0 ± 12.6°) tilt angles, and the forward head posture (15.9 ± 4.9 cm) have the worst posture in sitting position on a chair without a backrest while gaze angle (67.1 ± 12.0°) has the most awkward posture in standing. Practitioner summary The posture of using a smartphone affects the amount of pressure on the neck. This study aims to investigate the effect of different positions of using smartphone on head and neck angles among Iranian university students. The angles during using smartphone had a significant difference in different positions.Thirty percent of US adults are COVID-19 vaccine hesitant, but little is known about them beyond demographics. We used segmentation and perceptual mapping techniques to assess perceptual differences in unvaccinated, vaccine hesitant adults in Philadelphia, PA (n = 110) who answered a cross-sectional survey in-person or online. The sample was 54% ethnic minority, 65% female, 55% earned less than $25,000 with a mean age of 44. K-means cluster analysis identified three audience segments based on reported trust of healthcare providers and personal COVID-19 impact (High Trust/Low impact [n = 34], Moderate Trust/High impact [n = 39], Low Trust/Low impact [n = 23]). Multidimensional scaling analysis created three-dimensional perceptual maps to understand differences in COVID-19 and vaccine perceptions. The Low Trust/Low Impact group showed higher agreement with items related to COVID-19 being a hoax (p = .034) and that minorities should be suspicious of government information (p = .009). Maps indicate vaccine messaging for all groups would need to acknowledge these items, but added messaging about trust of pharmaceutical companies, belief that COVID messages keep changing or that vaccines are not safe would also need to be addressed to reach different segments. This may be more effective than current messaging that highlights personal responsibility or protection of others.Extracellular adenosine is produced from ATP by CD39 and CD73, and can modulate tumor development by acting on cancer cells or immune cells. Adenosine metabolism has been poorly studied in uveal melanoma. We studied the protein levels of CD39 and CD73 in a small, well described cohort of patients with uveal melanoma. Our results show a high variability in the levels of the two proteins, both in positivity and in intensity. Our results suggest that similar studies on larger cohorts could determine the clinical value and the druggability of these enzymes in the given clinical setting.Supplemental data for this article is available online at http//dx.doi.org/10.1080/15257770.2022.2032738.In elite sport, inertial measurement units (IMUs) are being used increasingly to measure movement in-field. IMU data commonly sought are body segment angles as this gives insights into how technique can be altered to improve performance and reduce injury risk. The purpose of this was to assess the validity of IMU use in rowing and identify if IMUs are capable of detecting differences in sagittal torso and pelvis angles that result from changes in stroke rates. Eight elite female rowers participated. Four IMUs were positioned along the torso and over the pelvis of each athlete. Reflective markers surrounded each IMU which were used to compute gold-standard data. Maxima, minima, angle range and waveforms for ten strokes at rates of 20, 24, 28 and 32 strokes per minute were analysed. Root mean square errors as a percentage of angle range fell between 1.44% and 8.43%. In most cases when significant differences (p less then 0.05) in the angles were detected between stroke rates, this was observed in both IMU and gold-standard angle data. These findings suggest that IMUs are valid for measuring torso and pelvis angles when rowing and are capable of detecting differences that result from changes in stroke rate. This study assessed for the first time the oral and dental health of ultra-trail athletes. We also confirmed and quantified the scale of their exposure to oral health risk factors. This was a cross-sectional study using data from a survey among runners who enlisted in the 2020 edition of the UT4M races (Ultra-Trail des 4 Massifs). The dental health of 84% of the participants was "good" or "very good". The nutritional intake during effort comprised foods liable to induce tooth decay (energy bars (55%), sugar-rich gels and fruit confectionary (40%)) and snacking was frequent (39%). More than 3/5 of runners saw a dentist for preventive check-ups. The more runners participate in races the more likely they are to have oral hygiene strategies during competitions (aOR = 1.85, p ≤ 0.05). The oral health of ultra-trail runners is better than that of the average French adult population. Regular dental hygiene and preventive dental consultations appear to counterbalance the risks that we evidenced.
Nonadherence to antihypertensive medications has been found increasingly prevalent in Thailand, yet the critical cultural resources of Islamic belief systems and family support are seldom mobilized to support adherence. Our study aimed to develop, implement, and evaluate an Islamic-based intervention program to promote medication adherence among Muslim older adults with uncontrolled hypertension in southern Thailand.

An action research with codesign and family participation principles was utilized. Within action research cycles, interviews with Thai-Muslim older adults, family primary caregivers, and health care professionals were undertaken alongside participant observations.

A qualitative audit demonstrated an improved medication adherence with all stakeholders expressing their desire to further engage and maintain the new intervention program.

Engaging with Islamic doctrine and concepts of family participation could support an improvement in antihypertensive medication adherence for Muslim older adults. Codesigning enables recognition of community belief systems, forming an important step toward improving community-based medication adherence.

Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a common chronic inflammatory disease of the nasal mucosa, affecting about 10-40% of children worldwide. Intranasal corticosteroids (INCSs) are the first-line anti-inflammatory drug in the treatment of pediatric AR. The systemic and local adverse effects of INCSs in children with AR should be assessed.

Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reporting local and systemic adverse effects of INCSs in pediatric populations with AR were searched out of PubMed and Embase.

Overall, INCSs displayed a favorable safety profile and high local-systemic balance of bioavailability with a low incidence of adverse events in the treatment of AR children. Nevertheless, the use of INCSs should be designed depending on one patient's response and adverse effects. The benefits and risks of INCSs should be assessed to ensure the clinical efficacy and avoid the insidious events.

In week 1, the content focused on how today's society engages with death through the language we use, humour, public mourning and funerals. This study investigated 2020 MOOC participants' responses to an online activity reflecting on funerals and memorials during the time of COVID-19. From this activity, n = 204 responses were analysed qualitatively. Themes included the positives and negatives of virtual funeral attendance (e.g. opportunity to have a way to participate when travel barriers existed, versus a sense of impersonal voyeurism); and the challenges related to the inability to physically comfort the bereaved due to physical distancing requirements. Comments made as part of this MOOC activity provide a unique insight into the community's experience of funeral changes necessitated by COVID-19, with important implications for the grieving process.Cystic fibrosis (CF) lung disease begins early in childhood and is characterized by neutrophilic inflammation of the airways. Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) represent one mechanism by which neutrophils contribute to lung damage. The enzyme peptidylarginine deiminase 4 (PAD4) is required for NET formation. Our overall concept is that NET formation delivers PAD4 outside the neutrophil resulting in autoantibody generation, and this autoimmunity may be a novel mechanism contributing to CF lung disease progression. The aim of this study was to investigate clinical predictors of serum anti-PAD4 autoantibody (PAD4 Ab) levels in CF subjects with a wide range of ages from early childhood through middle age. We measured PAD4 Ab levels in sera from 104 CF subjects. PAD4 Abs were detectable among CF children as young as one year of age and elevated compared to paediatric healthy controls. PAD4 Ab levels increased significantly with age (r = 0.584, p  less then .001) and correlated with lower lung function (r = -0.sSerum anti-PAD4 autoantibodies are detected in paediatric CF serum and are elevated compared to healthy paediatric controlsAnti-PAD4 autoantibodies increase with ageAnti-PAD4 autoantibodies correlate with lower lung function, Pseudomonas aeruginosa airway infection and anti-dsDNA IgA autoantibodies, but not with other key clinical CF co-variatesAge and lung function remain correlated with anti-PAD4 autoantibodies in multivariable analysis.Blood flow within the vasculature of the retina has been found to influence the progression of diabetic retinopathy. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/2,4-thiazolidinedione.html In this research cell resolved blood flow simulations are used to study the pulsatile flow of whole blood through a segmented retinal microaneurysm. Images were collected using adaptive optics optical coherence tomography of the retina of a patient with diabetic retinopathy, and a sidewall (sacciform) microaneurysm was segmented from the volumetric data. The original microaneurysm neck width was varied to produce two additional aneurysm geometries in order to probe the influence of neck width on the transport of red blood cells and platelets into the aneurysm. Red blood cell membrane stiffness was also increased to resolve the impact of rigid red blood cells, as a result of diabetes, in blood flow. Wall shear stress and wall shear stress gradients were calculated throughout the aneurysm domains, and the quantification of the influence of the red blood cells is presented. Average wall shear stress and wall shear stress gradients increased due to the increase of red blood cell membrane stiffness.
