Nissan Car Key Replacement
Replacing the Nissan key fob battery is usually an easy and straightforward process. But first you'll need to know if your car uses an intelligent fob, push to start button or regular remote/non-transponder key.
You'll also need the key code that should be kept in a safe place and should match the one that came with your car.
Transponder Keys
Commonly found in newer vehicles transponder keys are typically found in newer cars. They include an RFID microchip inside the key which transmits a unique code to the car when it is placed in the ignition. It is designed to stop theft by making sure that only the correct key can be used to start the car. Contact your local dealer or locksmith to view a demonstration of this technology.
When the transponder key is inserted in the ignition, it sends an indication to the chip inside the vehicle's engine control unit (ECU). The ECU then checks to see whether or not the code in the key matches with its own digital serial number. If it does then the ECU then disengages the immobilizer, allowing the engine to begin. If the code is not compatible with the code, the ECU will reject it and prevent the engine from starting.
These keys are more expensive than traditional keys but provide added security. However car thieves have changed over time and have found ways around this security measure therefore the extra cost will not deter them entirely.
Many people ask if it is possible to copy a transponder-key themselves. The answer is yes. However, it's better to leave it to auto locksmiths. The procedure can vary dependent on the make and model of your vehicle.
Mechanical Keys
Many older Nissans had mechanical keys. These traditional metal keys did not have remote functions, and were only able to unlock the doors and ignition cylinders on the car. Locksmiths can replace the internal components of a key that is damaged or a damaged case and make a replacement that works exactly like new. A reputable and certified auto locksmith can also cut you a brand new key at a much lower price than the dealership will charge.
There are many different kinds of mechanical keys that each have their distinct method of replacement. Linear switches, like come with a linear-actuation graph. When you press the button down, it will move until it hits an obstruction. When the key is put into the ignition, the switch will send an electronic signal to the car to turn it up.
Intelligent keys contain an embedded chip that communicates with the computer system in your vehicle. If you lose your keys, it must be replaced with a brand new one programmed to work for the vehicle. This requires a more sophisticated key technology, only available through a specialist locksmith for automotive. It will cost more than a typical key replacement at the dealership.
Key Fobs
Key fobs have been an integral part of many cars since the late 1990s. They allow you to unlock, lock and arm the car's alarm at the press of a button. Many people believe that these systems are so secure that only a person with your key code could drive away with your car. However, this isn't always the case. In a couple of easy steps, even the most sloppy of people can exploit these systems.
It's possible to replace your Nissan key fob's battery in case it's not functioning correctly. The rechargeable CR2025 and the CR2032 batteries used in most key fobs last about two years. If you're not sure of how to change the battery, consult the owner's manual to get advice.
If your key fob won't turn on due to a larger issue, it could need to be replaced or programmed. These issues can be more complicated than simply replacing the battery, and may require an auto locksmith's help. Certain companies specialize in repair and replacement of intelligent keys and will provide you with a OEM intelligent key at a price lower than the dealer. They can also deliver to you, thereby saving you the burden of having to leave your vehicle in a service center. They are also available all hours of the day seven days a week.
Remotes
There are Nissan models that feature a remote keyless entry system that uses a key fob to unlock your door and/or start your engine. Having a spare key in case you misplace your key is highly recommended.
A key fob replacement that works can help you avoid having to pay for towing and the expense of replacing your ignition keys. Fobs emit a frequency that communicates with the car's onboard computer to complete a series of actions, including locking or unlocking the doors or trunk release, or sounding the alarm for panic.

Choose the correct style since many of them look similar and can cause problems if they are not compatible. Also, online sellers offering a pre-programmed fob typically require the proof of ownership or registration in order to verify the legitimacy of the product. Websites that do NOT ask for this information may be scams.
