Demonology adalah suatu ilmu yang mempelajari tentang roh-roh jahat atau iblis. Secara etimologis, Demonology berasal dari Bahasa Yunani:
Daemon (δαίμooν) =divinity,divine power,god
Logos (-λογία) = ilmu / studi.
Demon adalah makhluk supranatural yang tidak menyerupai manusia.
Ditinjau dari asal namanya, Daemon, sebenarnya tak ada yang negatif dari demon. Namun, seiring berjalannya waktu, Demon dianggap sebagai makhluk yang jahat, berbahaya, terutama bagi manusia. Demon bisa merasuki manusia, dan harus dikeluarkan dengan exorcism.
Dan pada kenyataannya, memang banyak manusia yang diganggu karena kekuatan supranatural dari demon ini, bahkan ada yang sampai tewas. Proses exorcism itu tidak mudah dan tidak sebentar.
