Collaborative support of health workers, Indigenous Australian communities, dietitians, and researchers to raise awareness of nutrition during pregnancy is imperative to achieving nutrient targets and optimising pregnancy outcomes. Targeted interventions provide positive opportunities to achieve improvements.The objective of this work is to evaluate the ability of a series of possible feigning indicators, extracted from relevant literature in the field, to discriminate between clinical patients with genuine symptomatology and instructed malingerers. A sample of 273 participants divided into two groups was used for this study 153 whiplash associated disorder patients who were evaluated at a multidisciplinary medical center in the region of Murcia (Spain), between December 2017 and March 2019 and 120 healthy controls with malingering instructions, students of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Murcia. In order for researchers to evaluate the indicators included in the study, a 22-step checklist (CDS) was developed, consisting of 22 criteria divided into 5 dimensions. Our results show that 18 of 22 indicators could discriminate between groups. Dimension 2 "Attitude toward the situation of illness" presented the greatest capacity for discrimination. In general terms, malingerers express a much more negative experience of the condition than the clinical patients.We report here detection of helium in specimens derived from a burn autopsy case. A male was found in a burnt bedroom. Part of a heat-denatured plastic bag, sealing tape, and flexible tubing remained on his head and neck. In addition, five helium tanks were found near him. His history in conjunction with the discovery conditions suggested a suicide attempt by inhalation of helium. The body had extensive first to fourth degree burns caused by heat. A small amount of soot was deposited in the respiratory tract. Except for the thermal burns, no other injuries were found. Toxicologically, the blood carboxyhemoglobin saturation levels were less than 6%, while combustion-derived volatile hydrocarbons such as benzene or toluene were detected in the blood. In addition, tracheal gas, gastric gas, headspace gas of lung tissue, brain, and heart blood were collected during autopsy for detection of helium. Analysis was performed using headspace gas chromatography with a thermal conductivity detector. Helium was detected in all of the samples tested. Etizolam at a low limit of therapeutic concentration or less was detected in the blood. Neither ethanol nor other drugs of abuse were detected in his blood or urine. Autopsy findings and experiments suggest that the victim inhaled helium and was still alive when a fire broke out. The cause of his death was diagnosed as death from fire and flames. The present result suggests that helium may remain in a burned body and that investigation of helium in cases of fire-related deaths is informative for determination of the cause of death or confirmation of the ante mortem involvement of helium.Klinefelter Syndrome (KS) is the most common aneuploidy in humans (prevalence 85-250 per 100,000 born males) and is characterized by one or more supernumerary X-chromosomes (47-XXY, 48-XXXY and 49-XXXXY karyotypes). KS is a multisystemic disorder associated to multiple phenotypic features including cardiac abnormalities, infertility, mental retardation, diabetes and increased cancer risk. Using a non-integrative mRNAs reprogramming approach, we generated two iPSC lines 48-XXXY and 49-XXXXY from a non-mosaic 49-XXXXY KS patient carrying a balanced translocation t(4,11) (q35,q23). These iPSC lines provide a unique cellular platform to study the molecular mechanisms underlying KS pathophysiology.Skin fibroblasts were obtained from four patients with 7q11.23 microduplication syndrome carrying the reciprocal rearrangement of Williams-Beuren syndrome at the 7q11.23 genomic region. Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) were generated by retroviral infection of fibroblasts with polycystronic vectors. The generated iPSC clones ESi058B, ESi057B, ESi070A and ESi071A had the 7q11.23 duplication with no additional genomic alterations, a stable karyotype, expressed pluripotency markers and could differentiate towards the three germ layers in vitro via embryoid body formation and in vivo by teratoma formation. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common chronic inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS), and whether herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection is associated with the development of MS remains controversial. We aimed to investigate potential associations between MS or clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) and the prevalence of IgG and DNA for HSV in the clinical samples.

A systematic search of English databases (PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library) was performed. The prevalence of IgG against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) and DNA for HSV-1 or HSV-2 in clinical samples were pooled and compared between patients with MS/CIS and controls using Stata 12.0.

A total of 1756 patients with MS/CIS and 6429 controls from eight studies were included. The pooled results showed a significantly statistical difference in the seroprevalence of IgG against HSV-2 (OR 1.764, 95% CI [1.410 to 2.206], P=0.000) between patients with MS/CIS and controls. The study demonstrated that prior HSV-1 infection might relate to the onset of pediatric MS/CIS and might not play a role in the development of adult MS. Furthermore, prior HSV-2 infection might have a correlation with MS/CIS. The mechanism remains to be further studied.Prosodic cues drive speech segmentation and guide syllable discrimination. However, less is known about the attentional mechanisms underlying an infant's ability to benefit from prosodic cues. This study investigated how 6- to 8-month-old Italian infants allocate their attention to strong vs. weak syllables after familiarization with four repeats of a single CV sequence with alternating strong and weak syllables (different syllables on each trial). In the discrimination test-phase, either the strong or the weak syllable was replaced by a pure tone matching the suprasegmental characteristics of the segmental syllable, i.e., duration, loudness and pitch, whereas the familiarized stimulus was presented as a control. By using an eye-tracker, attention deployment (fixation times) and cognitive resource allocation (pupil dilation) were measured under conditions of high and low saliency that corresponded to the strong and weak syllabic changes, respectively. Italian learning infants were found to look longer and also to show, through pupil dilation, more attention to changes in strong syllable replacement rather than weak syllable replacement, compared to the control condition. These data offer insights into the strategies used by infants to deploy their attention towards segmental units guided by salient prosodic cues, like the stress pattern of syllables, during speech segmentation.
To compare pain measured with a new electronic device - the Continuous Pain Score Meter (CPSM) - and the Verbal Rating Scale (VRS) during gynaecological procedures in an outpatient setting, and to correlate these outcomes with baseline anxiety and patient (in)tolerance to the procedure.

This prospective cohort study was undertaken in two centres a university hospital and a large teaching hospital in The Netherlands. Patients undergoing an outpatient hysteroscopy, colposcopy or ovum pick-up procedure for in-vitro fertilization in one of the two participating hospitals with availability of the CPSM were included. Pain was measured by both the CPSM and the VRS. Patient tolerance to the procedure was reported. Various outcomes of the CPSM were compared with those of the VRS and related to baseline anxiety scores.

Ninety-one of 108 included patients (84 %) used the CPSM correctly during the procedure, and it was possible to analyse the CPSM scores for 87 women (81 %). The CPSM scores were all linearly related to the VRS. The peak pain score on the CPSM (CPSM-PPS) had the strongest correlation with the VRS score for all three procedures. Higher CPSM-PPS was related to patient (in)tolerance to the procedure (p = 0.03-0.002). Anxiety at baseline was not correlated with pain perception, except for VRS during colposcopy (r = 0.39, p = 0.016).

We report here a non-labeled, non-radio-isotopic and very specific method to measure UDG activity. Oligodeoxyribonucleotide duplex containing a site-specific GU mismatch that is hydrolyzed by UDG then subjected to Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry analysis. A protocol was developed to maintain the AP product in DNA without strand break then the cleavage of uracil was identified by the mass change from uracil substrate to AP product. From UDG kinetic analysis, for GU substrate the Km is 50 nM, Vmax is 0.98 nM/s and Kcat = 9.31 s-1. The method was applied to uracil glycosylase inhibitor measurement with an IC50 value of 7.6 pM. Single-stranded and double-stranded DNAs with uracil at various positions of the substrates were also tested for UDG activity albeit with different efficiencies.
