Diffuse intracranial susceptibility abnormalities have recently been described among patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), although prior studies have consisted of case reports and/or series. This brief literature review seeks to compile and catalogue the available data to elucidate characteristic features of such findings.

Scientific articles and studies on intracranial microhemorrhages in the setting of COVID-19 were searched on PubMed, Google Scholar, and the Cochrane Library. Included studies described intracranial microbleed(s) on magnetic resonance imaging in patients with COVID-19. If multiple patients were described, only patients with intracranial microhemorrhage on magnetic resonance imaging were included for analysis. Patient demographics, severity of illness (e.g. intensive care unit admission and/or intubation), time from diagnosis of COVID-19 to magnetic resonance imaging, and location(s) of any observed microhemorrhages were noted.

A total of 39 patients with suspected intracranial microhemorrhages have been described in prior studies. The average age of patients was 64.7 years; 21.9% were women. The average time between COVID-19 diagnosis and magnetic resonance imaging was 31.7 days. All patients in the cohort were admitted to critical care and were either intubated or treated with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation during their clinical course. Microhemorrhages were most commonly located in the subcortical/juxtacortical white matter and corpus callosum.

We report the case of a patient who experienced severe neurological symptoms collectively characterized as being "frozen" following a second oxaliplatin infusion.

A 52-year-old woman with metastatic colon cancer developed severe motor slowing, delayed and incomplete grip and dorsiflexion, speech difficulty, visual impairment, leg cramping and tingling after her second infusion of oxaliplatin. She was transferred from the infusion center to the emergency room and admitted to the hospital for further evaluation. Motor, verbal, and ocular symptoms gradually resolved within 24 hours, and she was discharged home without sequela.Management and outcome Oxaliplatin dose was subsequently lowered and infusion time increased, and she tolerated future treatments without motor, verbal, or ocular disturbance.

In this case report, we describe a rare form of neurological toxicity involving severe motor slowing, slurred speech, and blurry vision secondary to oxaliplatin.The current study is aimed to evaluate the combined effect of thermosonication (TS) and high hydrostatic pressure (HHP) on enzyme activities (polyphenolase and peroxidase), microbial load and phenolic compounds (phenols, flavonoids, and anthocyanins) of blueberry juice. Blueberry juice has been treated with TS (40 kHz and 240 W) at different temperatures (25 °C and 45 °C) for 15 mins with subsequent different HHP (200, 400 and 600 MPa) for 5 mins at room temperature. The results revealed that a combined use of HHP of 400 MPa and 600 MPa with TS at 45 °C not only reduced microorganisms below 1 logCFU/mL, but also significantly inactivated enzymes. The treatments also increased the phenolic compounds, peroxyl radical scavenging capacity (PSC), and DPPH free radical scavenging activity to a higher level without causing any changes in soluble solids and pH. Therefore, the combination of HHP and TS can be used as a novel alternative nonthermal technology to improve the nutritional qualities of blueberry juice, which produces a desirable, healthy juice for consumers.
