The test results showed that the prepared material had higher removal of triclosan (TCS) (30-40 mg/L) than BPA counterpart from the aqueous solutions. Moreover, it showed higher adsorption performance compared to the unprotected carbon materials. Furthermore, the mechanisms of BPA and TCS adsorption by core-shell granulated activated carbon (CSGAC) were discussed.Aerosol particle number (PNC) and mass concentrations (PMC) were studied in 11 primary schools during the 2017-2018 school years (from September to May) in Vilnius, Lithuania, with the aim to evaluate the main aerosol pollution sources and its levels. Expeditious information on the total aerosol particle concentration over the full range of sizes (from 0.01 to > 1 μm) was estimated using a condensation particle counter (CPC). Particle number and mass concentrations in the size range of 0.3-10 μm were measured and estimated using an optical particle sizer (OPS). The use of aerosol particle size spectra (OPS) in school lodgements facilitated the identification of the main sources of indoor air pollution. selleck chemicals The main sources responsible for the elevated levels of indoor PN and PM aerosol concentrations were determined local canteens in the absence of ventilation (particle concentrations up to 97,500 part/cm3 (CPC)), the school-grader activity during the lesson breaks (275-586 μg/m3), soft furniture and carpets in the classrooms and corridors (~ 200 μg/m3), and in some cases (city center) elevated outdoor aerosol pollution levels (16800-18,170 part/cm3). Elevated aerosol pollution levels were also due to the occasional sources construction works during lessons (200-1000 μg/m3), scraping the exterior walls of buildings near schools (up to 1600 μg/m3), and the use of petrol-powered trimmers during cutting of green plantings (22500-66,400 part/cm3 (CPC)).In this work, a new solar system that includes photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) air collectors coupled to a water-to-air heat exchanger is investigated. The considered system generates sufficient energy for cooling and heating of the ambient air injected in a 300 m2 tertiary building and saves its total energy consumption. Therefore, it allows the minimization of greenhouse gas emissions of the building. A numerical model is developed to ensure comfortable temperatures during summer and winter, including days with the highest energy needs. The results show that the proposed system can generate the required heating and cooling needs using an airflow rate equal to 0.25 kg/s and a PVT area of 17 m2. It was found that the coupling of the PVT air collectors with a water to air heat exchanger minimizes the total required area for heating by ~ 33%. Moreover, the PV module's efficiency was enhanced by 2.0% in winter and 5.1% in summer. The thermal energy saved for heating, thermal energy saved for cooling and the electrical energy saved are, respectively, equal to 15.30 kWh/day, 24.79 kWh/day, and 3.14 kWh/day. This represents an average emission reduction of 11.4 kg CO2 per day.Aspirin (ASA) is a widely used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Its high detection frequency in various waterborne and environmental residues has drawn wide attention. Limited information were provided for the effects of aspirin exposure on oxidative stress signaling pathway in fish, which is closely related to pathological and immunological process of fish. In this study, a small fish - Mugilogobius abei (M. abei) distributing widely in aquatic ecosystems in southern China, was employed as testing organism and the key genes of the detoxification metabolism were cloned for the first time. The responses of Nrf2/Keap1 signaling pathway were investigated under the environmentally relevant concentration aspirin exposure (0.5 μg L-1, 5 μg L-1, and 50 μg L-1) for 24 h, 72 h, and 168 h then. The transcriptional expression of the key genes (Nrf2, Keap1, GCLC, GPx, GST, SOD, CAT, Trx2, and TrxR) as well as the changes of the related enzymatic activities (GPx, GST, SOD, and CAT) and GSH and MDA content were also determined. Results showed that Nrf2 and Keap1 gene expression displayed a negative correlation to some extent under ASA exposure, the transcriptional expressions of the downstream related genes (GCLC, GST, SOD, CAT, Trx2, and TrxR) in Nrf2/Keap1 signaling pathway showed inhibition at 24 h but induction at 72 h and 168 h. At the protein level, ASA exposure can improve the antioxidant capacity by increasing GSH synthesis and enzymatic activity of GPx, GST, SOD, and CAT to reduce the degree of lipid peroxidation. We proposed that ASA exposure may interfere with the redox balance in M. abei at an early stage but sub-chronic ASA exposure can activate the Nrf2 signaling pathway to improve the antioxidant capacity of M. abei.Rainfall can affect influent flow rate and compositions of wastewater, and thus further affect wastewater treatment performance and the effluent quality. This study aims to study the influence of rainfall on the environmental impacts of centralized wastewater treatment plants. The correlations between rainfall, and influent flow rate and compositions of wastewater in wet and dry seasons with two sewer systems, i.e. combined and separate sewer systems, were primarily established. Environmental impacts were assessed with life cycle assessment (LCA) to understand the temporal environmental burdens in wet and dry seasons. Functional units as per m3 treated wastewater (FU1) and as per kg PO43-eq. removed (FU2), respectively, were used to evaluate impacts of wastewater treatment to the environment. Strong correlation between rainfall and the influent flow rate was found in the wastewater treatment plants with either a combined sewer system (with Pearson correlation coefficient r at 0.66) or a separate sewer system ter quantity and quality instead of combined or separate sewer system. This could be used to guide a stricter control of eutrophication in a more sensitive season in more vulnerable receiving waters. This paper presents a methodology that allows for calculating the thermal and electric energy consumption together with CO2 emissions of cities by inhabitant and household based on climate, only making use of publicly available data. With this aim, climate was analysed and cities were classified based on it. The analysis of those cities' energy consumption and CO2 emissions allowed for drawing conclusions. Once aware of the climate zones in which energy consumption and emissions are higher, these mentioned conclusions could help to take further actions. An index has been defined to facilitate this analysis. This paper shows the case of Spain for illustrative purposes. This type of study has been carried out in some detail in many countries, but not in Spain yet. This paper tries as well to fill the existing gaps in studies that relate climate to thermal and electric energy consumption. For this purpose, it analyses the 145 cities in Spain that have more than 50,000 inhabitants. Knowing all this is essential in all regions and countries.
