World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
The upgrade of an item can be used to increase the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a set amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's basic stats increases as it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all of its leveled up perks (attack magic attack, attack defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high depending on the upgrader you choose and the kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to how many perks must be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.
It can also be used to enforce gating requirements when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It is also used to limit how much PvP gear players can wear as PvP is restricted at lower levels. Players can see their average level of item on their character sheet.
Using the item level can help players compare the strength of equipment when they decide to buy or sell. It's a useful indicator of the quality of an item and how much damage it's capable of dealing with. Comparing items from a vendor's stock is possible using the item's level.
On PC, you are able to check the level of the item by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.
There are several theories about the method by which the level of an item is calculated. One theory suggests that the level of an item is calculated using an equation that determines the value of the stats of an item really are. It considers that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in the sockets increase the item's value. This can lead to an item's ilvl which is calculated and is usually very close to Blizzard's real level of the item.
However, this is not the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, because the level of the region the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, for example by adding a level to its haste or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.
Item Stats
Stats on an item are a significant part of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game makes use of them in various ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to a single weapon and to motivate players to experiment with other weapons. The stat mods on a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's skill.
Upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. A grey or white item for instance, will only be upgraded one time, while an item with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.
Another method of altering the stats of an item is to use affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all sizes and shapes. Affixes are used to give items additional damage or special abilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs), or to distinguish them by putting a name on them.
Presently, all affixes are able to be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by the arrows that circle. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items, which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other rerolling options.
In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which of the available stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However every item will contain at least one stat within the same range, unless it's an item that is unique or a God Roll from a raid boss.
Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attaches, or select which stats to boost. Like base equipment, it will have to be done per item and the interface for item comparison wouldn't display all possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player can increase the likelihood of locating items as well as the properties created by loot and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It gives players an opportunity to get better gear earlier in the game. This is especially beneficial in early game runs since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.
Luck can also boost the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading which increases with each level and can be further increased through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor, and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be augmented by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) for a further +40 luck or to boost the Luck of an item up to 140.
Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that is able to deal damage by 5%. These items are available in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their items if it fails.
When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of completing the upgrade successfully and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased as much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..
Casesgg of an item may influence the success of an upgrade. All items have a base success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.
Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects can be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
