The town's success was based on industries like brickmaking, brewing and iron-smelting. Many of these have gone out of business, but the town retains a strong manufacturing sector. There is also the Horsham branch of the pharmaceutical company Novartis, which was formerly part of Ciba-Geigy. The RSPCA has its headquarters in Horsham and so is the British television station ITV.
