Right ventricular (RV) dysfunction and tricuspid regurgitation (TR) are associated with adverse outcomes in severe aortic stenosis (AS) patients. Our aim was to evaluate the association between ≥moderate TR and RV dysfunction on long-term mortality following transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
A retrospective analysis of the Israeli multicenter TAVR registry among 4,344 consecutive patients, with all-cause mortality as the main outcome measure.
Echocardiographic assessment of TR grade and RV dysfunction was available for 3,733 and 1,850 patients, of whom ≥moderate TR and RV dysfunction was noted for 478(13%) and 78(4%), respectively. The mean follow-up time was 2.9 ± 2.3 years. In univariate models, ≥Moderate TR and ≥moderate RV dysfunction were associated with increased long-term mortality (HR 1.45, 95% CI 1.24-1.69, p < .001 and HR 1.73, 95% CI 1.21-2.47, p = 0.003, respectively). These finding did not remained significant after adjusting to echocardiographic parameters. A subset of patients with no improvement in RV function had the highest long-term mortality risk (HR 3.3, 95% CI 1.95-5.7, p < .001).

In this study, we investigated the outcome of 60 medical students who have participated in extracurricular scientific research at Jinan University Medical School over a period of 7 years (2011-2018). The results revealed that these students have contributed to 31 biomedical science articles in reputable academic journals, as first- or co-authors. Furthermore, they also independently procured various funding based on their research achievements, and smaller awards for achievements in conferences and competitions. Assessment of the grade point average score of these students revealed that conducting extracurricular scientific research did not affect their routine medical study and exam grades (P>0.05). The students benefited from participating in extracurricular research, by acquiring the ability to think scientifically and enhancing their communication skills. In addition, the medical students were motivated to enlist for postgraduate studies so that they could further embark in scientific research. In sum, Chinese medical students are capable of participating in scientific research and make a significant contribution to science.
To perform retrospective analysis of captive pteropodid bats presented to the University of Florida for ocular or adnexal disease from 2003-2020.
Twenty-four individuals from seven species were included.
Records were analyzed for disease process, methods of treatment, and surgical techniques and complications.
The most frequently reported abnormality was corneal disease (79%), followed by cataracts (54%), and uveitis (42%). Corneal disease was primarily attributed to either trauma or exposure keratitis secondary to buphthalmia. The majority of uveitis appeared to be lens-induced. Five cases (21%) of glaucoma were reported, all of which accompanied lens luxation. Of the seven enucleations performed, six had post-operative complications (85.7%), including swelling at the surgical site, seroma formation, and bacterial infection. There was no significant relationship between age and trauma, age and cataract formation, sex and trauma, or species and cataract formation.

Nonetheless, this phenomenon remains understudied, in part because of analytical limitations and the general difficulty of detecting selection that does not occur in a consistent manner. Herein, I fill this analytical gap by presenting an approximate Bayesian computation (ABC) method to detect and quantify fluctuating selection on polygenic traits from population genomic time-series data. I propose a model for environment-dependent phenotypic selection. The evolutionary genetic consequences of selection are then modelled based on a genotype-phenotype map. Using simulations, I show that the proposed method generates accurate and precise estimates of selection when the generative model for the data is similar to the model assumed by the method. The performance of the method when applied to an evolve-and-resequence study of host adaptation in the cowpea seed beetle (Callosobruchus maculatus) was more idiosyncratic and depended on specific analytical choices. The retention times of tetrahydropalmatine and corydaline were significantly influenced by pH, while the peak shape was affected by buffer types and ionic strength. The resolution of compounds in fingerprint was satisfactory under acetonitrile-0.2% phosphoric acid buffer (adjusted pH to 5.0 with triethylamine). Twelve common peaks were found by comparing 20 batches of C. yanhusuo fingerprints, and three tertiary alkaloids and four quaternary alkaloids were identified. The fingerprints were analyzed by similarity analysis, hierarchical cluster analysis, principal component analysis, and partial least squares discriminant analysis. All samples were divided into three groups, and the contents of dehydrocorydaline and coptisine from Zhejiang province were relatively higher than other origins. There were six components performing more contributions to the quality of C. yanhusuo. The correlations between alkaloids were conducted by Pearson correlation analysis and mathematical model analysis. The content correlation between palmatine and berberine was y = 0.28x2 + 0.03x + 0.03, and the dehydrocorydaline and coptisine was y = -7.54/(1 + (x/0.14)0.5 ) + 2.61. The established mathematical model of alkaloids provided a guiding significance for the quality control of C. yanhusuo.
