We have a family business since 1976, which has given the bread & butter to the joint family. Hence, the intent was always there to contribute towards nurturing the business. When I was growing up, my elder brother became my idol because of his out‐of‐the‐box thinking. After class 12th, I decided to join a course in electrical engineering to acquire analytical skills which would allow me to see things from different perspective. I also believed that a course in engineering would provide sufficient academic rigor for development of the mind. But even during my course, I was regularly visiting the family business office and trying to learn the technical and managerial nuances of work. I also started reading about business during my free time. I read a book named "Rich Dad Poor Dad" which taught me the importance of management in our life.
After my graduation, I joined the family business and worked in operations and direct marketing roles.I represented our company in various sports exhibitions being held in Delhi and Jalandhar. I took the initiative to sell our products online which was finally implemented by discussing with higher authority. Over time, I felt that managerial education is necessary to help convert my ideas into actions and wanted to gain skills in operations, marketing and finance and learn how to run a business with sustainability. A PGDM course from NMIMS will enable me to be aware and well‐conversant with the challenges faced by various business functions.
