Background Adequate assessment of traumatic injury in patients of all age groups is essential for timely intervention and prevention of mortality and morbidity. This study aimed to assess the value of certain clinical as well as radiological factors as predictors of severity of the intra-abdominal injury as detected on computed tomography (CT) and to review the guidelines, protocols, and practices followed in imaging of abdominal trauma in patients of pediatric age group. Methods This retrospective observational study included 263 pediatric patients (18 years of age or younger) who presented to the emergency department (ED) with a history of trauma to the abdomen. The study was conducted over a period of 12 months. This review will discuss the health care and ICU cost, the evolving role of clinical pharmacists in managing critically ill patients, and their contributions in the ICU to mitigate the risks, improve patient outcomes, and decrease health care costs.

This study aims to review the long-term outcome of osteochondral injury of the talus treated with a cell-free hyaluronic acid-based scaffold (Hyalofast®, Anika Therapeutics Inc., Bedford, Massachusetts, USA).

This study evaluated the data of seven patients who underwent medial malleolus osteotomy, microfracture, and cell-free hyaluronic acid-based scaffold (HYALOFAST®) insertion between 2015 to 2018. All patients had an osteochondral lesion (OCL) grade III and IV of the talus based on Dipaola classification due to trauma. They were followed up for at least two years and assessed by the shortform 36 health survey questionnaire (SF36) for both physical functioning and mental health, American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) scoring system, and visual analog scale (VAS).

All patients were satisfied in terms of physical function, mental health, and pain after one month of surgery (p-value<0.05). There was also an improvement in AOFAS hindfoot and VAS scores from preoperativeto postoperative. No complications were noted in the surgical site or bone union.

In adults, the bone marrow is the main site of hematopoiesis. When this process occurs outside of the bone marrow, it is a sign of disease or deficiency. Clinically, the findings of EMH may be diverse. One rare complication that can arise from EMH is obstructive jaundice. This occurs when there is a blockage of bile flow leading to retention of bilirubin in hepatocytes. Identifying the markers of EMH and obstructive jaundice is important for optimizing positive outcomes. While often asymptomatic, EMH can be deadly if left untreated. In this case, we present a patient with obstructive jaundice secondary to EMH.Left ventricular thrombi (LVT) is an uncommon complication that can occur after a myocardial infarction thanks to the discovery of revascularization therapies. Before it, an LVT was described in up to 60% of patients with myocardial infarction. The authors present a case of a 46-year-old female who presented to the emergency department with one week of dyspnea, who had symptoms of chest pain for a week, however, did not show up in the hospital due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is reported to be the most frequent cause of morbidity and mortality in cases of upper gastrointestinal (GI) diseases. There is paucity of research between the possible association of H. pylori and iron stores and iron deficiency anemia (IDA).In this study, we will determine if there is an association between serum total iron-binding capacity (TIBC), serum iron and ferritin levels, and H. pylori infection.

This case-control study was conducted in the gastroenterology ward of a major hospital in Pakistan from December 2020 to April 2021.Three hundred patients diagnosed with H. pylori were enrolled along with 300 participants in the control group.H. pylori was confirmed or excluded with the help of Giemsa stained gastric biopsy specimens. Blood was sent to the laboratory to test for ferritin, serum iron, and TIBC. Each sample was drawn in the morning to avoid any fluctuations.

The mean serum iron level was significantly lower in participants with H. pylori infection compared to those who did not have H. pylori infection (110.72 ± 28.38 ug/dL vs. 162.5 ± 21.18 ug/dL; p-value <0.0001). Serum ferritin level was significantly higher in participants with H. pylori infection (536.82 ± 117.0 ng/dL vs. 391.31 ± 101.54 ng/dL; p-value <0.0001).
