If 120 frames per second on the display of your gaming laptop is twice as quick as 60 frames per second, then surely eight-times as many frames must be eight-times as good. That's the thinking behind the latest super high refresh rate panels offered on Alienware gaming laptops. The Dell subsidiary is now selling its M17 R5 and x17R2 17-inch laptops that have new panels that are said to be the most powerful in the industry.
Although the panels can only display 1080p resolution with this incredible speed, it's likely for good. In the end, you'll need to play an application that can output nearly 500 frames-per-second in order to see the benefits - switch off ray-tracing, and opt for Minecraft-grade textures, I suppose. The new panel has an average response time of 3ms and is compatible with NVIDIA GSync and AMD FreeSync, depending on your GPU configuration. The upgrade is $300 more than the base screen at 165Hz, which is 95 cents per hertz.
I've seen screens with 120hz in comparison to 240hz screens at trade show demonstrations and they convinced me that even ultra-fast gamers can benefit from these screens. But what about doubling that speed again? Minecraftservers It's not going to improve the actual performance of gaming I'm not convinced even for eSports pros who have Special Eyes. But ridiculous excess is the main draw of gaming hardware, after all.
