Minecraft is a plethora of useful applications, many of which teach players. It is also a great tool for making the computers we use to play Minecraft more intelligent. That's exactly what Microsoft's Project Malmo (formerly known as DNA Storage Project) is currently doing. Project Malmo, which was made public today on the Mojang blog has made its open-source tools available to all today to help others strengthen AI in a variety of ways.
Mojang says that Minecraft is the perfect way to educate AI when it comes to offering solutions to problems, sharpening spatial and temporal reasoning, and even collaboration. Project Malmo can provide a variety of opportunities to teach artificial intelligence software and act as a research tool that can test these theories as well.

You can download the mod for Minecraft PC and Mac here if are interested in Project Malmo and testing it out. While you'll need to be familiar with some programming however, that doesn't mean you shouldn't be concerned. Microsoft has confirmed that even beginners can get involved and eager to see what people create.
