In light of Frog-kun's recent post about liking 2D characters, this got me thinking.
Because if I'm to be perfectly honest with myself, I have a confession.

I think I've developed a legitimate virtual crush on Frog-kun.

I mean this perfectly seriously. This is going to sound really really creepy, but I think about Frog-kun a lot in real life. I've been checking his ask.fm so much that it's showing up as my number one most visited site when I open new tabs on Google Chrome. I feel like I shouldn't admit this, but I also fantasize about him on an emotional level.

Yeah, I'm a total creeper.

I know Frog-kun says that a lot of his anons admire him too much (namely, me lol), but as I sit here reflecting, I really can't help it. I've developed a crush on Froggy for much of the same reasons why a lot of people obsess over their waifus and husbandos. It's a shit ton of idealization and loneliness. The fact that--yes, I know it's not the real Frog-kun that I'm fixated on--rather, I've become captivated with an illusion that I've generated myself. More accurately, I'm obsessing over this fictional character who happens to be called Frog-kun.

It's really unfair and probably wrong of me to do this.

We often talk about objectifying the opposite gender. Usually, we mean eye candy, whether it's sleek musculature for girls or boobs for guys. We also talk about how wrong it is to objectify. However, in my case, I'm left wondering, because to be perfectly honest with myself, all I've done is objectify traits of Frog-kun's personality.

Frog-kun has opinions but is honest with himself. He has a tendency for self-deprecating humor, and is so very humble about it. He's introspective and examines his past selves; dislikes egoism and elitism, but also wary of becoming hypocritical. Actually, he knows he's hypocritical, but is also accepting of the fact. Even so, he's always striving to become better. He's striving to see things from more viewpoints and walk those two moons, whether from a feminist's perspective or even yaoi. Frog-kun is reaching across these barriers that tie a lot of us down, even though he has his own personal preferences that he holds dear to himself.

It's unfair, really.

I feel a little clench in my heart, because in some fashions I'm jealous. I'm jealous because I live no where near Australia, and I wish I knew someone even remotely like Frog-kun in real life. I'm coming dangerously close to saying, "Why aren't there 3D guys like there are in 2D?" Except, replace the 2D part with Frog-kun. Or more accurately, objectified ideals I've collected out of scraps of Frog-kun's Internet persona. They're ideals nonetheless.

It's objectification, dammit!

I have a love-hate relationship with myself because of it.
