A glue trap seals weeks of searching for a venomous zebra cobra in north Raleigh.
Despite the efforts of animal control officers and law enforcement, law enforcement and animal control officers trapped the venomous snake on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, a 48-hour incident that generated nationwide interest.
The glue was removed from the cobra's body after being guided into a red bucket and brought to a safe location.
A striped snake was spotted earlier in the day crawling out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive, onto the front porch of a house. Lifting its head, it was able to see its hood.
When officers confirmed it was the snake, they walked back from the camera crew before moving in to try and capture it.
On Tuesday, police searched the same home after receiving a 911 call there.

Raleigh is a North Carolina city. Despite hours of preparation by animal control and law enforcement officers, a glue trap finally captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday, capping an incident that drew widespread attention.
As the glue was slowly removed from the cobra's body, it was placed into a red bucket and taken to a safe location.

At youtube.com, a striped snake crawled out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive onto the front porch of a home earlier in the day. When it lifted its head to look around, the top of its hood was visible.
Before moving in to capture the snake, Animal Control officers moved camera crews to the back.
An early morning 911 call from that same home prompted the search.

It was a relief to neighbor Joan Nelson to have the ordeal over.
'I feel very safe now,' she said. Getting outside on my deck or stepping out on my deck gives me a sense of freedom. Though I do feel a little sorry for the snake.

Even a morning walk with your dog becomes dangerous due to the snake's ability to spit up to nine feet and be as fast as a zebra cobra. The African Snakebite Institute states that the snake is very dangerous. It is possible for the venom to cause a victim's nervous system to shut down.
One who is poisoned by the cobra would immediately feel pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. Afterward, a fever and breathing problems would result, possibly resulting in respiratory failure.
Salina Locke is an experienced veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, where she treats all types of pets.
Cobras typically do not bite. They spray their venom more often -- they're very accurate, she said.
A pet of this snake is not recommended because of the risks, according to Locke.
People tend to get bitten most often when they're sleeping. Research shows that people who are bit may suffer health issues for years.
In the afternoon of Tuesday, police searched a home near the street where the cobra was last spotted, at 6917 Chamonix Place.
Four police officers visited the home in March to investigate an animal problem. They returned on Monday and Tuesday after the zebra cobra was discovered on a porch about a half mile away.
At that address, Keith and Rebecca Gifford inhabit the house, according to county records. According to a Facebook account linked to Keith Gifford's name, he has several photos of snakes he claims to own with his son, Christopher.
TikTok user Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers. His post claims he has a zebra cobra that is 7 feet long.
