7 Implementation

This section informs the reader about the actual work done through the internship period on Apache Mesos. Not only this section describes the process of actual development, but also mentions the significant obstacles encountered. Section is divided into main functional components of the project, which are the steps of the realization of the GSoC project initially proposed.
After careful consideration with GSoC project mentor Vinod Kone, the following path to realizing the project was agreed on. Due to its documentation being was somewhat vague, the initial step was trying out Cyrus SASL library by developing a client-server authentication that uses ANONYMOUS mechanism. Then , that code was to be integrated into Apache Mesos, which would help Mesos practically serve just as before it had any authentication support at all. Then, finally, support for more sophisticated and semantically meaningful authentication mechanisms such as Kerberos and key-based authentication are to be added.

7.1 ANONYMOUS Client-Server Authentication

Cyrus SASL documentation gives a step-by-step overview of a simple client-server authentication. An initial attempt was made at implementing such an application mainly using the sample code provided. However, there were complications in the implementations. The type and content of the parameters to some of Cyrus SASL functions being utilized were unclear. Unfortunately, though, any further detail on the data passed to the functions Cyrus SASL offers was rare to come by in the documentation of the library. As in most open-source projects, Cyrus SASL had an IRC channel, which was the next stop to head to, if one encountered a problem while developing software using Cyrus SASL. Yet, despite the fact that Cyrus SASL is the authentication solution used by renowned software such as sendmail, IRC channel of Cyrus SASL was not responsive at all. The post describing the issue faced did not et a proper response in 3 days, during which the post was repeated on a regular interval of 6 to 7 hours. At the end of the third day, an e-mail was sent to Cyrus SASL describing the complications encountered Not wanting to lose any time on such a seemingly tiny issue,

7.2 Integration with Mesos

7.3 Kerberos Support
