# i am going to talk about rasipuram krishnaswami iyer narayanaswami commonly known as r k narayan.

# he was considered as one of the leading figures of early indian literature in english. he gave foreign poeple a window to look into indian culture and lifestyle.

# he wrote many novels like the guide, the english teacher, the dark room, under the banyan tree, the talkative man,and malgudi days

#He was born in chennai on 10 october 1906

#his mother was frail and his father was a school head master and had to be frequently transferred for his job so he was raised by an uncle and his grandmother, parvati

# his grandmother taught him math and science and inspired the passion for language and people

# He attended a christian school and developed a lot of attachment for hindu gods simple because his christioan teachers ridiculed them

# in 1930 he graduated from maharaja's college in mysore. that same year he wrote his first book, swami and friends. that book was rejected by a lot of publishers, but it was important because that was when he created the town of malgudi a semi urban ficitional town in south india where most of his stories were set.

# after getting married in 1933 to rajam, he became a reporter for the justice. he showed his novel to his friend who in turn got it published

#his second novel, the bachelor of arts was published in 1937 it was based on his experience in college.

#in 1938 he wrote his third novel called the dark room and it dealt with the subject of emotional abuse, that same year, his father died

#in 1939 his wife died due to typhoid fever but he continued to write his fourth book, the english teacher.

#throughout the years of 1940 to 1967 he wrote many books like, mr sampath, the financial man, waiting for the mahatma, the guide, the man eater of malgudi, gods demons and others, and the vendor of sweets. During this time he also toured the united states, australia, an england. he also won the sahitya akademi award.

# Within next few years he started translating Kamba Ramayanam to English because of a promise he made to his dying uncle once.

# Narayan was asked by the government of Karnataka to write a book to promote tourism which he republished in 1980 with the title of ‘The Emerald Route’. In 1980, Narayan was chosen as the member of Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament.

#during the 1980's and the 1990's he wrote many stories like malgudi days, under the banyan tree, a tiger for malgudi, talkative man, a writer's nightmare, a grandmother's tale and the world of nagaraj

# he died in 2001 at the age of 94, he was going to wrote the story of a grandfather just before he died

# he left behind a legacy that would never be forgotten. Narayan is regarded as one of the three leading English language Indian fiction writers, along with Raja Rao and Mulk Raj Anand.
