Dinko Šimunović cijenjeni je hrvatski književnik koji je iza sebe ostavio brojna djela od kojih se mnoga smatraju vrhuncem hrvatske književnosti i zahvaljujući kojima se smatra utemeljiteljem moderne novele s naglaskom života na selu.
rođen je 01.09. 1873. godine u Kninu u obitelji učitelja. Zbog posla oca koji je radio kao učitelj, Dinko je odrastao u malim mjestima Dalmatinske zagore, Kijevo i Koljani. Poput svog oca završio je školu za učitelja u mjestu Arbanasi u blizini Zadra.
