his interest in computers begun at around age ten, when his grandfather Leo bought a Commodore Vic20, he soon became bored with its programs and started making new ones, soon programming and mathematics became Torvalds's passion, in 1991 bought his first PC (Personal Computer) a Sinclair QL (a new computer, and a big step-up from his old one) however he soon became unhappy with it's Operating System (most important program in a computer that controls a computers software (or programs that control a computer) and hardware (physical stuff in a computer), ex of what OS do: recognizing input from keyboard, putting output in screen, and it also manages software and hardware resources of a computer (all programs are constantly competting for the attention of the CPU, and want all resources for themselves, an OS makes sure all apps gets enough resources and making sure they interact with each other , like a good parent) it was a MS-DOS (from Microsoft) and it could not be reprogrammed because of its ROM, he prefered the UNIX Operating system (developed by AT&T (OS) used in his current university, The University of Helsinki,he tried to get UNIX (a multiuser operating system (far better than MS-DOS, and had a multiuser operating system (meaning people with computers can get on a system with one OS in it , manages data just like in an OS but at a larger scale, usually used in offices where everyone tries to use the same resources, ex: many people trying to get to one printer, so the OS, manages each person's request)
he tried to get it, but it was expensive, and not as good, so he decided to make his own version of UNIX, after a few months of working he came up with the Linux Version 0.02, he announced it, and updated his source code (version of software that is original (written by a person) )so people could study it, modify it and upgrade it, they could even sent him the ideas (didn't meant they would necesseraly be implemented =) ) , then he released the official LINUX
