> Rasi bintang untuk orang zaman dahulu berfungsi sebagai pemberitahu kapan musim akan berubah, kapan waktunya untuk mulai bercocok tanam, dan digunakan sebagai peta (penunjuk arah mata angin). Bagi pelaut, rasi bintang digunakan sebagai panduan untuk berpindah dari satu lokasi ke lokasi lainnya dengan cara menghitung bintang.
