Ms. Lagunas said that she would remain in the United States illegally, risking arrest and deportation. But she would lose her job of 12 years without the work permit that comes with the protection. Her family would lose medical insurance and other benefits.

People that came into the United States through P.T.S. have really benefited a lot. They have built themselves a life, families, relationships, and bonds. They have been here so long that they prefer living in this country than their native country. They left their native country for a reason, and they are thriving in this country. Forcing people to leave the life and country they are more comfortable with is unfair and unjust. People would rather stay here and live in fear of deportation and losing medical insurance, than go back to a country that they no longer know. So many things have changed since they were away and they are already accustomed with their lives here, so why should they be forced to leave? It's not fair to force people to go back to a country that they don't feel comfortable in.
