What I Can Do For Harvard
It is not secret. I am not a wunderkind. I do not have 1,000 hours of science research. I have not composed my own symphony. Despite all of these things, I still have plenty to offer. Once I set a goal, I achieve it, no matter what the cost. Up until my seventh birthday, I was a habitual thumb sucker. There are even sonograms of me sucking away in the womb. But on my seventh birthday, I was offered an American Girl Doll, in particular a Samantha doll, in exchange for quitting cold turkey. I never stuck my sweet, little thumb in my mouth again. I have suffered plenty of set back with riding. I have had to watch my friends advance while I stepped back and started again at a lower level until I was ready to move up again. I have had horse after horse go lame or throw me into the dust. I am still not where I want to be in my riding, but I am not deterred. I ride every day for three or more hours, regardless of how beaten down I may feel. For my first year of high school, I was so nervous and shy that I had barely any friends. None the less, I pushed on, constantly coming up with new plans of action, new ways to push myself to my limits so that I could end up with the incredible friends I have now. I have struggled, true, but I never give up. Even more, I am constantly going back to the drawing board. If something doesn't work, I will change it 1000 times over until I can achive my perfect goal. But more than that, I am human. I am approachable. Though I may not have won the Intel prize, I am the person who will pick run out to get my friend special cupcakes after a rough day. The friend that will stay up all night just to make sure that you have a study partner to help quiz you for your astrophysics final. One of the most incredible feelings I have had was when I learned that my best friend wrote in her Common App essay about how I helped her when her grandfather died.
