- As the population grew and more people lived in close proximity, the diseases were able to spread rapidly. in 1870, Louis Pasteur, was able to show a link between in response to this germ theory.
-Pasteur himself invented the process to eliminate bacteria in milk "pasteurization" and vaccines for various animal-borne illness. Their diseases have their causes pinpointed such as tuberculosis coming from bacteria and malaria and yellow fever being transmitted by mosquitos.
- This understanding leads to a boost in hygiene awareness
- Bathing regularly and changing clothes become standard practices.

- Hospital and Surgical practices evolve during this time.
- Prior to the change, there was no anesthesia besides alcohol.
- Hospitals and Medical Practices begin to evolve to combat these issues.
- Anesthesia is developed to relieve pain and patient reaction during surgery, not only allowing safer surgeries but medical exploration.
- Florence Nightingale and joseph lister lead the way in reforming medical hygiene.
