PBM和PBP是play by mail和play by post的簡寫，
這是兩種相似但不同的遊戲方式。
現在，就先介紹何謂PBP，在介紹PBM。
PBP
其實PBP並不是一種新的遊戲方式，我在台論就曾看過PBP的蹤影。
PBP是作者在網路上發布文章，當打到一定段落時，便讓讀者決定小說的走向。
例：你在地下城遇到了米諾陶諾斯，牠舉起巨斧，往我站的地方揮去。
(A)舉起手中的劍檔住巨斧
(B)往後一跳，試圖躲過巨斧
(C)頭也不回地逃走
這便是選項式PBP的一小段，
先描寫情境、劇情等，然後在出選項或由讀者自己行動，
前者已有範例，後者稱為自由式，等下在解釋。
PBM
PBM的遊戲方式其實跟PBP差不多，
但其中最大的差別在於PBP是發佈在網路的連載文章，
而PBM則是由作者發郵件給各個玩家，體驗一種文字型線上遊戲。
因此PBM通常比PBP還要難，
因為PBP雖然每次做決定的人都不一樣，但大致上都是一對一，
作者只需思考一個決定，但PBM就不同了，
PBM通常都是多人遊戲，作者需要思考每個玩家的決定，
決定各個玩家的未來，並適時安排各玩家的互動，
就各種方面而言，PBM真的是種高難度的遊戲。
就我所知，遊戲方式分為選項式與自由式，若各位還知其他遊戲方式，請不吝指教。
選項式：選項式已有範例在樓上了，
這遊戲方式就像平常玩電腦角色扮演時相像，
就給玩家一些選項，讓玩家自由選擇，這種遊戲方式較簡單，
因為作者已經寫好各個選項的劇情，接下來就任君選擇了。
自由式：又稱捷式，是較為困難的遊戲方式，
對作者和玩家都是，玩家可以根據現有情況和自身條件來自由決定他要怎麼做，
重要的是，他要怎麼做都行，這代表著作者無法預知接下來的情況，
因為天知道玩家會做甚麼，當你安排玩家和一個NPC對話，
原本只是好好的對話，但說不定玩家會突然拔劍砍死那個NPC。
但玩家也有責任，他得完整交代他要做甚麼，不能打個哈哈就過去了，
因此，這是種具挑戰性，但更具可玩性的遊戲方式。
