Resistors get hot because of collisions between the moving charges and stationary ions in the wire.
Lamp Filament - becomes hot enough to glow.
Voltage = Push of the battery on the charges.
In parallel - the current is largest through the component with the least resistance.
Mains electricity is produced by generators by electromagnetic induction.
When the magnet moves into a coil of wire a voltage is induced across the ends of the coils.
When the magnet moves out there will be a voltage induced in the opposite direction.
Transformer = two coils of wire wound around an iron core .
A changing current in one coil of a transformer will cause a changing magnetic field in the iron core, which will induce a changing p.d in the other coil.
Induced voltage can be increased by:increasing the speed of the rotations
-Increasing the strength of the magnetic field.
-Placing an iron core inside of the coil.
a.c is easier to generate than d.c.
