guinea pigs

HOUSING

A guinea pig will become very lonely if you have only one. Guinea pigs cannot live by themselves unless you have tried and tried multiple times to introduce them to different partners.

One guinea pigs needs 7 square feet of space. Most pet store cages are not very good and are very small and flimsy. A good option would be a C&C (cubes and coroplast) cage, which is spacious and affordable. You can build your own, which is cheaper than buying a C&C. Plus you can customize your cage! Appropiate bedding options:
fleece with a liner underneath
carefresh
nontoxic newspaper (not that absorbent though)

Innappropiate beddings:
wood shavings (aromas are toxic and not that absorbent)
Corncob (can get ingested and will become impacted)
cat litter (can get ingested and will become impacted)
timothy hay (not that absorbent though, can mold and will poke your piggie)

DIET

A good guinea pig diet consists of good quality hay, veggies and fruits, and pellets. A good pellet brand is Oxbow.
Safe fruits and veggies:
Dark leafy lettuce (NO ICEBERG)
spinach
carrot
bell pepper
broccoli (can cause gas)
kale
celery (stringy parts removed)
parsley
cilantro
green beans
strawberries
blueberries
apple
pumpkin
banana
peaches
cherry (pits removed)
oranges

That is the tip of the iceberg (joke, please do not feed iceberg). You can find TONNES more online. Fruits should be fed as treats. Too much sugar can lead to obesity and diabetes.

Hay and grasses: 70-75%
Fruits and Vegetables: 20-25%
Pellets: 5-10%
Treats are nonexistent

Clean, fresh water is a must. Chew toys are a must.

MISC

Should be taken to the vets once a year, wellbeing exam.
With proper care, guinea pigs can live up to 10 years.

Hamsters

Hamsters are solitary animals, and need a cage that is 360 square inches. they also need a running wheel or flying saucer, 2-3 inches of a good bedding (wooden shavings can emit dangerous fumes).

The diet should mostly consist of good quality pellets/donuts. A good brand would be Oxbow. Do NOT buy any products with colourings or nut bits. the next would be veggies, fruits and protein. Hammies are omnivorous and need a variety of foods. No more than 1/2 tsp per day of all 3.
Fresh water MUST be available at all times.
NEVER feed avocado, onion, chocolate, caffeine or junk foods.

Make sure you are letting your hamster have some "floor time" in a ball or enclosure. Some like to let their TAMED hamster just stroll along
