Ilmu Hitam adalah jenis-jenis sihir yang digunakan untuk menyebabkan kerusakan, kontrol terhadap sesuatu, dan menyebabkan kematian. Menurut Prof. Snape, ilmu Hitam banyak jenisnya, bervariasi, selalu berubah-ubah, abadi, tidak dapat dikontrol, berpindah-pindah, dan tidak dapat dimusnahkan.
Pada dasarnya ada 5 jenis ilmu hitam :
1. Dark Charms
2. Dark Potion
3. Dark Item
4. Dark Creatures
5. Praktek Sihir Hitam.
Dark Charms sendiri ada 3 macam. Pertama, Jinxes yaitu sihir ringan dalam golongan ilmu hitam.
Kedua ada Hexes, yaitu kutukan yang membuat orang lain berubah bentuk. Kutukan ini mengubah seluruh atau sebagian anggota - anggota tubuh penerima sihir menjadi lebih buruk." Suga membuka halaman selanjutnya.
Kemudian terakhir adalah Curses yaitu, Kutukan Tak Termaafkan. Mantra paling buruk dalam sihir hitam.
