Lemme break it down for ya.
Here are the teams/heroes featured in 2016 of the MCU:
Avengers/Avengers affiliates
Dr. Strange and his gang
Agents of Shield
Netflix squad
Here's what they did, in order of 'save the world-itude':
Dr. Strange and his gang-
Prevented the destruction of Hong Kong, and more importantly, prevented the entire Earth from being teleported to another dimension, wherein everyone on the planet would most likely be killed by Dormammu.
The entire Earth is saved.
Agents of Shield-
Prevented Hive from turning something like 3/4ths of the world into ugly ass Alpha Primitives with no higher brain functions, all under the complete control of Hive. Surely without Shield's interference the entirety of Earth would eventually become under Hive's control. As a bonus, Shield also prevented [Season 4 Spoiler] from nuking LA.
The entire Earth is saved.
Avengers/Avengers affiliates-
First off, did nothing to stop the first two. Think about that, 'Earth's mightiest heroes' almost let the world end twice, and two large cities get leveled. Anyway, they did manage to stop Crossbones... kinda... lots of people still died. And they stopped Zemo... a guy whose only malicious goal was to dismantle the Avengers. Also, he pretty much succeeded anyway.
Ninja edit: To be fair, I just remembered Crossbones did have a biological weapon. Only a tiny vial of it, but whatevs.
Caught some terrorists.
Netflix squad-
Punisher took out some gangs. Daredevil killed some ninjas, and Luke Cage helped clean up Harlem.
Lowered crime in NYC.
And yes, while I personally believe that stories dealing with personal demons -- like in Civil War -- are usually more human, and make for great storytelling (and more blockbusters should be taking notes from Marvel in that regard), if you're looking at it from a purely 'who saved the world the most perspective', the Avengers kinda dropped the ball a bit this year, right?
TL;DR: Dr. Strange saved the entire Earth, Shield saved the entire Earth, and 'Earth's mightiest heroes' did nothing to stop either events. They caught some terrorists.
