You know guys, food wastage is a serious problem, especially in Malaysia. People are trying to reduce this problem, they are authorities also non governmental organizations.

Food loss and waste comes in different shapes. In developing countries such as South Africa and Malaysia, 40% of food losses occur during harvest and processing level, when the farmers try to grow their plants or they take care of their animals. And then in industrialized countries such as USA and Australia, 40% of losses happen at the retail or consumer level, when food discarded by retailers and consumers due to bad appearance, for example they do not like plants colors or they smelled something bad from meats. But if you still can not understand with these definitions, let's say that food waste caused by three reasons; destroyed in transport, not bought a supermarket, and thrown away by the consumer.

Guys, do you want to know how much food waste in Malaysia? Okay, according to the data, food waste is grouped by this. First; edible food waste, it is your unfinished food, for example slices of bread. Amount of edible food waste in Malaysia is 3 million kgs. Second; unavoidable food waste, it is your food or drink preparation that is not, and has not been, edible under normal circumstances, for example meat or chicken bones. Amount of unavoidable food waste in Malaysia is 4 million kgs. Third, avoidable food waste, that can be eaten when a food is prepared in one way but not in another, for example potato skins. Amount of avoidable food waste in Malaysia is 8 million kgs. So total amount of food waste in Malaysia is 15 million kgs. These food waste are very much, right?

Do you remember when we collected food waste in this school's cafetaria? Good, we already got the result. We collected food waste from 16th January, 17th January and 18th January. We have measured how much food waste in this school and let's see this diagram. On 16th January, the amount is 900 gram. On 17th January, the amount decreases to 500 gram. On 18th January, the amount decreases again to 300 gram. From this result, we could take conclusion. Do you guys know what is it? So, the conclusion is SMK St. Thomas has awareness towards food waste, because the result were decreasing from first day, second day and third day. Let's give an applause!
