Source I

The storming of the Bastille a national holiday and marked the beginning of the French Revolution, an event which took place after the Tennis Court Oath was created. The Storming of the Bastille was when the people of France had united to begin riots and storm into Bastille as a way to force the King to bring change upon the three estates after being treated poorly for decades with weapons such as muskets. The reason of this historical event, was because the royalty was simply ignoring the issues, not giving attention to the real crisis of France. In this source, it showed that the individuals wanted a radical change in which they wanted rapid adjustments to their way of living. This source's violent depiction shows the individual's thought about the King's ignorance.

Source II

The Tennis Court Oath, a meeting assembled by the third estate, in which some members of the two other estates joined with the main goal of making changes and to create a constitution, because voting by Estate became unfair with 600 members in third estate and 300 members on both the first and second estate; the votes from each estate counted as a whole, ignoring the quantity of members and had caused the members to take action because it was a guaranteed loss for them, which ultimately led to the third estate opposing to the King, however was locked out of the Palace of Versailles and so had resorted to the Tennis Court, hence the name. An individuals role in society is limited due to the government and its laws which had led people to protest and oppose as a way of change even is harsh ways as their last resort to fix their problems.

Comparison of Source I and Source II

With these two sources each leading to one another from The Tennis Court Oath to The Storming of The Bastille, we can conclude that Source II was a subtle method for change and had been altered to a more violent way leading to Source I because the King would not change. This shows that the individuals were not powerless and could go against the King; their influence on the King can ultimately change the way their society functions. Another source of influence comes from the philosophers during the French Revolution, such as Locke and Hobbes. Locke believed that individuals didn't own private properties, which reaffirms the content in source I. Meanwhile, Hobbes believes that the government should have full control and manage the entire society, which coincides more with source II.
