Dalam sejarahnya, Universitas Harvard berdiri pada tanggal 8 September 1636 dan merupakan perguruan tinggi tertua di Amerika Serikat. Sebelumnya kampus ini bernama New College dan baru Harvard College pada 13 Maret 1639 untuk menghormati jasa John Harvard yang merupakan seorang mantan mahasiswa Universitas Cambridge yang telah menyisihkan sebagian hartanya kepada Universitas Harvard. Title "college" yang berubah menjadi "universitas" sendiri baru digunakan sekitar tahun 1780

Jurusan psikologi Harvard sendiri terletak di William James Hall atau berada di Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences didirikan pada tahun 1890
Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) adalah Fakultas terbesar di Harvard University. Jurusan psikologi harvard pertama kali muncul di akhir tahun 1800-an berkat dukungan dari Scholarship of William James atau beasiswa William James

model-model yg terbuat dari lilin hingga koleksi otak manusia dan hewan tersedia disini, penelitian yang sudah mereka lakukan dari tahun 1890-an sampai saat ini penemuan & penelitian di lab ini pun banyak yg sudah dijadikan referensi-referensi di hampir seluruh kampus di dunia
