Gejala awal setelah digigit Murtlap adalah lemas dan linglung, terutama jika yang digigit adalah Muggle, karena fisik mereka berbeda dengan Penyihir. Korban gigitan Murtlap harus segera meminum ramuan dari tanaman obat untuk menghilangkan efek kejang-kejang.
Tentakelnya dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan ‘sari acar tentakel Murtlap’. Cairannya berwana kuning. Jika tangan yang terluka direndam ke dalam cairan ini, bisa membuatnya sembuh.
Ashwinder (XXX)
Tercipta ketika api sihir atau api apapun yang telah mendapatkan tambahan bahan sihir (seperti bubuk floo) dibiarkan membakar tanpa kendali untuk waktu terlalu lama.
Hanya hidup selama satu jam dan selama waktu itu hewan ini mencari tempat gelap dan terpencil untuk meletakkan telurnya, setelah itu ia akan roboh kedalam abu.
Telur-telur Ashwinder berwarna merah terang dan mengeluarkan panas yang hebat. Mereka akan membakar rumah dalam beberapa menit jika tidak ditemukan dan dibekukan dengan mantra yang sesuai.
Kegunaan telur Ashwinder yang telah dibekukan:
