Its History Of Best Robot Vacuums
Best Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos

A robot vacuum is the ideal device to keep a clean home. It can remove pet hair, dust and other surface debris before it causes a bigger problem.

Some robots can sync with smart assistants like Alexa or Google Assistant to provide a hands-free experience. Look for models that can recharge and resume cleaning the area they left.

1. iRobot s8

This smart robot vacuum and mop is a great option for a wide range of homes. It has a great navigation system that includes GPS and laser sensors. It also comes with a lot of features and controls that are accessible through the app. It also has a handy feature which allows you to create cleaning zones in areas that require extra attention, as well as Keep Out zones in areas that you do not want it to go. As with all Roomba devices, it is updated with new software updates that make it even better over time.

It's expensive, but it's also one of the most advanced robot vacuums that ZDNet has tested. It has a powerful battery that can clean an entire home in less than two hours. It also switches between vacuuming and mopping at the touch of the button. And unlike other self-emptying robots that require you to empty the trash bin after each run, it automatically emptys into the larger waste container that is above its charging dock.

It also has a number of other features, such as intelligent obstacle avoidance that uses cameras in conjunction with processor-powered smarts to recognize obstacles. It rarely gets derailed or entrapped during a cleaning cycle, and it's the best in avoiding power cables and other objects in my tests. However, it isn't as effective in detecting pet waste and other hazards.

2. Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8

Eufy is owned by Anker is now an iconic name in the world of low-cost robot vacuums. But it didn't provide a model that could also mop. The X8 Hybrid is a new model that offers a range of modern features and is able to compete with more expensive models.

Eufy's main selling point with this device is its laser navigation. The X8 uses a laser mapping system that is more accurate than the previous Eufy devices. It also takes significantly less time to create a comprehensive picture of your space and stores multiple maps, which is ideal for homes with multiple floors.

The X8 is a good vacuum cleaner for floors with no dust. It can easily sling debris under the side brushes and into its 400ml dustbin. The X8's tyres, despite having a circular shape, are good at grabbing edges and corners. Our tests showed that it could only remove 90 percent of the fur on hard floors.

There's a basic mopping mode which uses the same water tank as the vacuuming. While this is a good option for loose spills however, you aren't able to limit the amount of water it consumes, which will limit its effectiveness for more severe stains. It does a good job in removing pet hair. It has a higher pick-up rate than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Awarded for its quiet and efficient home appliances, Miele's RX2 robot vacuum is a great choice because of its cleaning power, beautiful design and excellent navigation. It has some oddities in its operation that keep it from being named the top smart robot vacuum.

Similar to the latest models of iRobot like the RX2 features dual-sensor mapping technology which uses a LIDAR sensor to map the space and three 3D scanning cameras that can detect and avoid obstacles (like furniture legs or pet waste) in real-time. Once the room has been mapped it is possible to assign virtual no-go zones and sections that you would like to be the robot. You can also change the cleaning modes, initiate a manual clean, or view live feeds from the cameras onboard from the main screen.

The RX2 is equipped with excellent sensors that can detect furniture and other obstructions instantly. The suction and sweeping capabilities are exceptional, getting rid of surface litter from medium pile carpeting and also removing dust that has been deposited on floors. But it's not the most agile robot on the market. Like many other robots it's not a very good climber and has issues with things like metal threshold transition strips.

Many people purchase a robot vacuum to enjoy the convenience of setting up a schedule using an app and then forgetting about it for weeks at a time. However, it's essential that a robot is able to get the job done that's the reason why our ZDNet staff looked over and tested a number of the most popular ones to help you choose the best one for your home.

4. Shark ION

This round, budget robovac looks just like your standard robot, however it's upgraded in performance and features. Its intelligent mapping system creates 3D and 2D maps of your home and uses them to navigate and avoid obstacles. It is able to detect common obstacles like furniture legs and power cords in real-time. This combination of sensors, together with a bump sensor and an infrared drop sensor that keeps it away from stairs is what makes it one of the most flexible vacs we've tested.

In our tests, it was able to climbed over thick shag rug and didn't end up stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigation abilities were impressive as well and its overall score on carpet and bare floors beat out the competition. It took in 98.5 percent of surface pet hair and litter from our lab test samples.

The controls are simpler than those of the competition's. There's a clean button at the top, and you can start it using the app or by voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also create a schedule for daily or weekly cleans, set areas that are not allowed to be cleaned, and check the history of its cleaning. Ion is covered in a sophisticated dark gray plastic that looks and feels appealing in your home. The rear dust bin is easy to empty and removing the filter is the same.

5. Eufy 11S

If you're looking for a simple robotic vacuum that is simple and has no frills for a reasonable price, the Eufy 11S could be a good choice. It isn't equipped with some of the more advanced features, like digital mapping and Alexa integration, which are found in higher-end models but if you're not looking for those functions you can save money by purchasing this model.

The robot is easy to set up and use. It doesn't require a smartphone app or Wi-Fi pairing, but it does have a remote control that lets you choose between different modes and alter the suction level. It also allows you to manually send the robovac off on a scheduled cleaning.

In our tests, the 11S was extremely efficient in removing dirt and pet hair from hard floors as well as in low-pile carpets. automatic vacuum and mop robot helped it get under furniture and other low objects that more bulkier robots were unable to reach. It was able to go effortlessly over door thresholds and switch from one floor type to another.

The 11S, just like other robots, can also eat some objects, such as cords and cat toys. The manufacturer suggests that you can prevent this by keeping these objects off the floor and by using an organizer for cords if you can. It also recommends cleaning the dustbin periodically, replacing the filters and changing or washing the brushes as needed.

6. IRobot Roomba 990

The Roomba 980 is iRobot's most popular robot vacuum. It's pricey, but it's also the most powerful robot vacuum you can buy. Its self navigation and environmental mapping are a wonder to behold. It is more sophisticated in its automation than most of its competitors, such as the ability to set up virtual boundary markers using its mobile app. Although its app is a little sluggish and the 980 may spin a bit when moving over cables, it's still a highly efficient robot vacuum.

We really like the 980 because it uses its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors and its visual simultaneity localisation and mapping (or vSLAM), to memorise your home's floor plan. It will then use the information to create an efficient and consistent cleaning path for every cycle. The result is cleaner floors, and a cleaner vacuum than most competing high-end robot vacuums.

Other features include dual multi-surface rubber brushes that pick up dirt from carpet and hard floors, along with the spinning brush that sweeps debris into the bin of the robotic vacuum. Its floor tracking sensor assists it in maneuvering around furniture, along edges and on steps. Cliff Detect prevents the Roomba from falling. It will automatically return to its base station to ensure hassle-free charging between sessions. Although the 980's battery life and bin size aren't as efficient as some other robot vacuums, it's a reliable and solid machine that will keep your floors spotless for hours and hours.
