Buying a Double Buggy From Birth
When it comes to choosing the ideal double buggy, there are a lot of things to take into consideration. Katie Billingsley, a postnatal retreat expert from the Fourth Trimester, gave us her tips on everything from seating options and age groups, to folding mechanisms and storage.
This buggy is a must-have for active families. It will grow with you and your family, from twins to toddlers. It's light and easy to maneuver and can handle difficult terrain with ease.
What kind of buggy would you prefer?
Double buggys are ideal for transporting two children at the same time even if they're not of the same age. They can be used as prams and have the ability to recline within each seat, allowing your children can sit or lie down in different positions. Many have ample storage for everything from drinks and snacks to nappies and wipes. They are usually light they fold easily and are compact enough to fit in the car boot. If you travel a lot deal, it's important to ensure that the buggy can be easily maneuvered by folding the wheels into your car boot, and then removed.
You might have seen this type of double buggy on other mums strollers, or even in one as a kid. These are great for older siblings that want to keep up with you or for twins and typically have a large number of seating options (including "cinema" seats) for your little ones to choose from. These are usually easy to steer, and if you opt for a model with a soft suspension, they will easily handle kerbs.
Tandem buggies, which are more simple to turn than side-by-sides, are also popular. This is due to the fact that the second seat is positioned behind the first, instead of sitting on top of it. The seats are generally larger and heavier than a side-by-side, so you should check whether they are able to pass through doors or on public transport. They can be used to transport twins, a baby and toddler or three kids with the addition of a buggy.
Lastly there are lightweight double buggy -to-double' convertibles which can be used as a single pushchair from birth then convert to a double by attaching a second seat, carrycot or car seat to their clever frame. They tend to be more expensive than side by sides or tandem buggies but offer lots of flexibility and have a great resale value. They're generally simple to steer, feature large storage bins and can handle uneven surfaces. Some even have an integrated ride-on board that can be used as cinema seating for your older child.
Do you have twins?
Double buggys are the best way to transport your children, regardless of whether they are twins or older siblings. There are two types of double buggies: tandem buggies which have one child sitting over the other, and side-byside buggies. Both can accommodate two fixed seats, but side-byside buggies are typically narrower in width to allow for access through doors. Tandems are generally larger overall. They can also accommodate a carrycot and toddler seat.
Do you have one?
At beginning, having a younger sibling could feel like a lot of responsibility especially if you're caring for the infant. A double buggy can also allow them to feel included if you put them in an infant carrier and push the older child. It will also help your child get into their new role of big brother or sister'.
Side-by-side double buggies are usually considered the best option for twins because they allow both children to have the same view, but they can be bulky and heavy. The Leclerc B-AGILE DUAL is a sleek double buggy with a unique frame that can be expanded widthwise and can accommodate two seats fixed. It also provides a variety of configuration options, including the second seat for a bassinet.
If you prefer, we suggest alternatively, we recommend the Mountain Buggy Double Trailblazer for families that love to explore. This innovative buggy starts off as a single pushchair but can be converted into a double, taking an additional seat, a carrycot or a car seat (depending on the model). Its smooth ride is perfect for rough terrain, and it includes a number of clever features that will ensure that everyone is happy.
Do you require an effective business travel system?
Double buggies are ideal to transport your children around in comfort, but they're not essential for every family. You might be able to use a single stroller, and some attachments such as baby carriers and toddler straps that permit your child and you to be able to travel on their backs, or in front.
If you choose to purchase a double buggy there are three kinds to pick from: side-by-side, tandem and convertible. Side-by-side buggies have two seats near each other, so your children will be able see each one another. However, they tend to be wider than a single pushchair and are difficult to maneuver up and down kerbs. Tandem buggies are small, with one seat in the front and a second one at the back. However, they can be heavy and lengthy to push.
Convertible double buggies permit you to transform a single stroller into a double buggy by securing a bassinet or infant car seat to the frame. It is possible to keep your baby in the car seat until he or is ready to step up into the buggy seat. The UPPAbaby Vista V2 is a great illustration of this. It's suitable for twins, a baby and toddler or even three kids with the the optional PiggyBack board.
As your children grow older and more capable, you can use a double buggy to take them to bike rides or day excursions where they might prefer walking. But, it's important to remember that they may not want to be in a buggy and could easily get tired and angry when they are on longer excursions.
Before you invest in a double stroller, think about the factors mentioned above and your family's specific circumstances. A durable and reliable double buggy can make your life easier, particularly when you are required to navigate through busy streets or overcrowded malls.
