With our mother's reluctant blessing, Robert and I set out, with our dog, Cindy, to explore. We didn't tell her we were looking for the town junkyard. She made us wear our high boots. We promised to stay close and to look out for rattlesnakes.

Most people think that in buying used motorcycle parts for sale in a salvage garden, they will just waste their time and money. As triangle auto salvage would have it, we came upon a rattlesnake before we reached the junkyard. It was minding it's own business, eating a mouse. Cindy saw it first. She started barking. The snake's rattles made a weird noise, kind of like rustling leaves, but different. Robert stepped right up beside it and pushed his Y stick behind the snake's head. It would have worked except the prongs were too long and the surprised viper quickly crawled around the stick and up toward Robert's hand. Fortunately, its mouth was full. Robert dropped his Y stick, demanding mine. No objection was heard from his little brother. Having already, wet my pants, I was more than happy to give it over.

The first step towards recycling your car is finding a junk yard that is interested in buying vehicles for used car parts. Not all junk yards will pay for old cars, and you might as well make some money out of the transaction.

Let us start with ease of obtaining. Obviously newer car parts will be easier to get than older ones. A friend of mine still has a 1975 Pontiac Lemans. To obtain parts for this car he has to literally go to junk yards and even online. No new car dealers keep parts beyond 10 years or so and even electronic scrap yards near me stores limit their inventory to cars under 20 years. A 30 year old vehicle is almost impossible to find parts for. Plus, if you can find the part, depending on where you get it, the cost could be anywhere from 20 to 100% over the original part cost. To say that late model car owners are taken advantage of would be a gross understatement.

Especially for older cars or antique vehicles being restored, used car parts may very well be the only answer to your parts needs. You may not find any auto supply outlet with access to car parts for a '49 Studebaker pickup or a '32 Ford, but you may very well find salvage yards with cars that are being sold for parts.
