This is a major issue because it means that you aren't able to drive without a spare key or have your mechanic fix the problem.

Fortunately, the majority of broken car keys can be replaced or repaired easily. If your key has been broken in your lock or ignition, you can occasionally remove the remaining part of the key using pliers or a coated wire. Additionally, a locksmith could provide you with the necessary tools designed to slide in alongside the key and apply a pincer-like grip onto the broken pieces to securely pull them out.

If key repair to your car is broken in half, a quick and inexpensive fix can be to glue the two pieces back together. Keep a pair or scissors and a roll tape at hand in case you need to alter the alignment.

Replace the battery inside the car key fob to repair a broken key. If your car's key fob isn't turning on and you don't yet have an alternative then this is the ideal solution. Based on the model of vehicle, you could occasionally do this by taking off the key fob and then opening it using a screwdriver, or a small tool.

If the problem is more serious for instance, the key fob is totally inactive or does not start at all, you will need to get it replaced. This is something that you can do at a dealership however, it's generally cheaper to hire an auto locksmith to visit your location and perform the needed repairs or replace the key fob completely.

Broken Key Fobs

Car key fobs aren't impervious to damage, and just like all electronic devices is susceptible to issues at some point. If they stop working, they're not difficult to fix. The first thing you'll need to determine is the cause of the issue.

The battery is typically the culprit when the keyfob stops working. The replacement of the battery is the simplest and cheapest solution, and it's something you can do at home.

If changing the battery does not work, you can take it apart and cleaning it. The circuit board of the fob is comprised of "contact pads" that correspond to each button on the fob. (Lock buttons, trunk buttons etc.) The contact pads feel rubbery and are coated with an electricity-conducting film which wears off over time. Utilizing a cotton swab along with some rubbing alcohol, you can wash the contacts of your key fob to eliminate any corrosion hindering their function.

If you suspect that your contacts are damaged or loose, you can use the tweezers in a pair. It is recommended to apply silicone to the back of the key fob first before you insert the new contacts. Silicone helps seal the contacts and keep out water.

Another possibility for a non-functioning key fob is that it is no longer paired with the vehicle. When you use a key fob, it sends the car a message that informs it of what you intend to do. If the key fob has been disconnected, it won't be able to recognize the car and will not allow you to start the engine.

It's time for you to call a locksmith or a dealership technician if it's impossible to get the key fob to connect with your car. They'll have the equipment to reprogram the key fob and make it functional again. It's likely that you'll have to pay an amount for the service, but it's less expensive than buying an entirely new key fob.

Unresponsive Keys

If a key on your keyboard stops working, it can be a nightmare. First, make sure the key isn’t blocked by anything. Hair, dust and other debris could accumulate over time and hinder the movement of a key or disrupt its circuitry. Try gently getting rid of the key and then cleaning the area under it with a rag or rubbing alcohol. Sometimes, it's all it takes to make your key work again.

If the key doesn't work, it's possible that it's an issue with your software. Certain keys are linked to specific actions in games, so if your key isn't working as you'd like it to, make sure you check your game settings to make sure that the key is properly assigned to a specific action.

You might also try reinstalling the drivers for your keyboard to fix the problem. Drivers that are outdated or damaged can cause your keyboard to stop functioning, so it is important to always keep them updated whenever possible.

The key could be damaged. There are two circuits that make up each key switch and as time passes, they get worn out until they no longer register when they are pressed. If this is the situation it is recommended to replace the keyboard as the keyboard will not function properly.

If you've tried all these solutions but the keyboard still doesn't respond, it's time to have a professional inspect your laptop or external keyboard. There could be a physical problem with the membrane that covers your keyboard, or it could be that one of the keys has become damaged.

To determine this you'll need to test the keys on the keyboard tester website. The website will let you know whether keys work correctly during an examination If they do, it's most likely to be due to a software issue. You can then start applying the remaining fixes to restore full functionality. You could also use an external keyboard until the internal keyboard is repaired or replaced.

Keys That Don't Work

It's a hassle when keys don't work however, they're usually simple to repair. The majority times keys that malfunction are caused by a piece of grime underneath the key or just not being connected properly to the laptop or keyboard. If you're unsure whether this is the case, begin by cleaning the keys and then using canned air to blow out any dirt or dust.

The key may have become disaligned. This is a different issue which can be resolved with an expert, but it is more likely to require replacement of the key. If your car key is electronic and can't be turned by turning a manual metal key into the ignition, it's likely that the transponder chip inside has stopped working, and you'll need to get an entirely new key programmed.

If your laptop or external keyboard keys seem to not be registering any action in any way, you could try a key test website. This will help you figure out if there's problems with software or the keyboard itself.

A switch that's not functioning properly could also be the cause for keys not working as expected. If you have a mechanical keyboard you can look under the keycap and observing if there is any debris stuck to it. If you find anything you want to remove, use canned air to clear it, then take off the cap. This will allow you to replace the hooks that connect the retainer to the switch, and hopefully restore functionality to the key.

If a particular key on your keyboard only fails to perform its expected function in a particular program, it's most likely that the key has been assigned to a different action by the game's keyboard settings. Make sure you check the settings on your keyboard and press the key once more to check if it is working. If you're still experiencing issues, it is best to purchase an entirely new keyboard. It can be put in place by professionals. This is especially true when you play a sport which requires a lot more typing.
