Choosing a Double Pram and Pushchair
A double pram or pushchair can simplify life for families, particularly on busy streets or in the shops and stores. Choose a model that has ample storage space for nappies snacks, nappies, and other necessities.
Some parents who are first-time parents choose a future-proof pushchair that can be used as a single pram once bub is born and then transformed into a twin-mode when the baby is old enough. Joolz offers a range of these options.
Tandem
The news that you're about to have a baby is one of the most exciting moments in your life. Once the excitement has worn off and the reality of the situation sets in, you will be faced with many decisions regarding how to prepare your family for. The best stroller or pram is among the most important things to consider.
Tandem prams, also referred to as "in-line" double prams are a classic design with two bassinets or seats placed side-by-side. The front seat is usually padded and reclines to a flat position making it suitable for babies, while the second seat is more upright and can accommodate toddlers from around three years older. Some models let you choose whether your children look at each other or outwards. Many tandems can be converted into one pushchair once your oldest child is no longer using the second seat.
A tandem is more affordable than a twin pram and is an excellent choice for parents looking to save money, without losing safety or function. A tandem can be heavy and difficult to steer, especially when negotiating curbs. It's also less stable than twin prams, especially if an older child is in the front. A tandem isn't always easy to fit on public transport, and it can be difficult to maneuver narrow pavements.
The iCandy Peach, a popular model that focuses on image, is an excellent option for a single parent who wants an elegant design. However the tandem mode can make it feel long and heavy to push. It has an expanded frame that increases in size to accommodate a second seat. It can be used with a variety of car seats, buggy seats and carrycots (two at one time or in separate). The iCandy Wave tandem is another lightweight option that is easy to use and compatible with a variety of carrycots or car seats.
Side by side
There are many aspects to think about when selecting a double pushchair or pram. There are numerous configuration options to choose from, whether you're purchasing for twins or close-in-age siblings. Tandem prams, also known as side-by-side prams, are popular choices due to the fact that they can be set up so that the infant can be seated in the bassinet on top while the older child or toddler is seated in the second seat.
Some models even have reversible seats, which means you can alter the seating arrangement to meet the needs of your family throughout the toddler and baby years. This lets you keep your kids always in your sights and gives them a an opportunity to interact with each other as they stroll.
Tandem prams are jogging buggies as well as all-terrain buggies. They are great for trips outdoors, such as to the park. They're also a good option if you need to brave narrow checkout aisles or isles in supermarkets as they tend to be smaller than single-seaters.
The Redsbaby JIVE3 Pram, for instance can be used as a tandem pram from birth in dual mode by adding the use of the rumble seat (PS249). It is then possible to change to a single pram mode once your baby grows out of the rumble seat or choose the car capsule adaptors (PS53) to turn it into a traveler from newborn to toddler.
The Side by Side Pram made by Babybee is another option. This double side-byside pram comes in a range of colors and is designed with a modern design. It is designed to be used from the moment of birth, you can add the LUNA newborn Cocoon (PS262) and the LUNA Infant Seats (PS53 each).
The Egg 2 is a stylish elegant pushchair that is able to be converted into a double side-by-side. It's available in a variety of carrycot and infant seat combinations to cater for twins or siblings of various age groups and is easy to fold. It is also relatively lightweight and therefore a good option for people with little space in their cars or don't have enough space for storage.
Convertible
Some of the top double pushchairs or prams can be configured into different seats to meet your changing needs. It is possible to fit up to three children on the seat board or two toddlers in the seats and still have enough space to carry a shopping bag. Accessories like rain covers are also available. Most convertible double strollers are more spacious and heavier than single pushchairs because they are required to be able to hold two or more children. The Graco Modes Nest2Grow is one instance of a low-cost convertible which is very user-friendly, but our testers felt that it was a little heavy for the money.
Some convertible double strollers, such as the Baby Jogger City Select 2, have a carrycot option that is suitable for infants. This reduces the size of the double stroller when it is not being used and makes it smaller. Our test participants were awestruck by the City Select's clever one-handed fold, although it requires some practice. It's also extremely fluid and agile, despite its size.
The Cybex Mockingbird single-to-double stroller is an alternative that is affordable. It converts from a parent-facing infant car seat to a forward-facing toddler car seat and the bassinet-style mode is a fantastic option for infants (although be aware that babies younger than 4 months old should not sleep in strollers because of the risk of positional asphyxia).
If you want more flexibility, consider a dual-mode convertible like the iCandy Peach. This is a narrow double stroller that can accommodate two children side-by-side. It can also be used to make a tandem by incorporating a second seat kit. It feels agile and responsive, and our test users loved its sleek design. twin pushchair 's not as light as some of the other pushchairs we've reviewed however, it comes with an enormous shopping basket that is great for parents who carry bags of toys and food.
Lightweight
Convertible double strollers are a great option for parents who already have children and anticipate to have another. The iCandy Peach can be converted from a single pushchair a double with the addition of a toddler's seat, or the brand's carrycot (which is ideal for overnight sleeping). Our testers were pleased with how comfortable the seats are and loved the fact that both recline to different positions, come with built-in leg and foot support and generous UPF 50+ canopy with peekaboo windows. The rear seat can be elevated to provide a an elevated platform for a child to get on and off, to allow them to access items in the shopping basket.
The only issue with the iCandy Peach is that it is quite heavy, however Cher found that this was overcome by its ease to maneuver and how large the storage is equipped with two hanging parent and child cup holders as well as seat-back pockets, and an enormous underseat basket. She also liked the seat's design, which is reversible, so they can be positioned to face each other for siblings who want to talk and get together while out and about.
A lighter, but equally impressive option is the Delta Children LX side-by-side stroller that weighs just 18 lbs, is super compact and has a self-standing fold that makes it easy to transport and store in your trunk or at home. Parents love the quality of the materials and workmanship and the affordable price. The only drawback is that the seats don't recline as far as other models we've tested and the rear seat doesn't have great visibility because of its position - it's raised higher than the front seat.
Another popular option is the Joolz Geo 3, which is slim, sleek and easy to steer, with an appealing design and a lifetime guarantee. While they're smaller, side-by-side prams can still be more spacious than tandems and inline doubles. This makes them difficult to maneuver on busy footpaths and in shops. However, they are often smaller, and can be more maneuverable in tight spaces than tandems.
