Fall Detection
One of the most common and devastating health issues for older adults is falls. According to the World Health Organization, about 28-35% of people aged 65 and over fall each year.

Using sensors that can measure body position, physical activity and the smoothness of acceleration, these devices can identify sudden changes in an individual’s movements.
Most medical alert companies include a fall detection feature as part of their standard medical alert system for an extra fee. Some companies offer this feature as a separate device that can be worn separately to your medical alert button.
Fall Detection Systems
There are two main types of fall detection devices: wearable sensors and ambient/motion sensors. A wearable sensor can be worn around the neck, wrist, or clipped onto a belt and works indoors or outdoors with cellular service.
Some fall detection devices include other sensors that can help reduce false activations and increase the accuracy of their detection. These include gyroscopes, barometric pressure, and magnetometers.
Depending on the company, fall detection devices may also send GPS data to the monitoring center, so emergency responders know where you are.

In addition, some devices allow you to manually cancel an alert that was not initiated by the device.
