"Nebula"
Nebula (dalam bahasa latin "nebulae") adalah awan antarbintang yang terdiri dari gas, debu dan plasma. Awalnya nebula adalah nama umum yang diberikan untuk semua obyek astronomi yang terbentang, termasuk galaksi di luar Bima Sakti.

Daerah H II adalah tempat kelahiran bintang-bintang. Mereka terbentuk ketika awan molekul yang sangat luas runtuh di bawah gaya gravitasinya sendiri, seringkali disebabkan oleh pengaruh ledakan supernova yang ada di dekatnya. Awan runtuh dan terfragmentasi, membentuk hingga ratusan bintang baru. Bintang yang baru saja terbentuk mengionisasi gas yang ada di sekitarnya menciptakan nebula emisi.
Nebula yang lain terbentuk oleh kematian bintang. Sebuah bintang yang sedang mengalami transisi ke tahap katai putih menghembuskan bagian terluarnya untuk membentuk planetary nebula. Nova dan supernova dapat juga menciptakan nebula yang dikenal sebagai nova remnant dan supernova remnant.
