"Tanaman Water Hemlock"
Water Hemlock atau Cicuta Maculata adalah tanaman berdaun ungu dengan garis-garis putih serta berbuah kecil. Tanaman yang berasal dari Amerika Utara ini tingginya mencapai 1,8 meter. Tumbuh di sepanjang tepi sungai, rawa-rawa, dataran rendah, dan padang rumput yang basah.
Tanaman ini adalah tanaman beracun. Terutama di bagian akarnya, yang dinamakan cicutoxin. Racun ini dapat menyebabkan rasa sakit berlebihan, kram, muntah-muntah, kebingungan, rasa sakit di daerah perut, gemetar, bahkan kematian karena orang gagal otot jantung apabila mengonsumsi tanaman ini. Satu sampai dua gigitan saja sudah bisa menyebabkan kematian. Hal ini disebabkan karena akar tanaman ini termasuk jenis umbi-umbian dan sering salah di konsumsi oleh manusia.
Selain berbahaya bagi manusia, juga berbahaya bagi hewan seperti sapi. Tanaman ini tumbuh di daerah berair dengan tinggi 2,5 meter. Dengan bunga khas hijau atau putih kecil disusun dalam bentuk payung. Hingga saat ini belum ada obat penawar khusus untuk keracunan tanaman ini dan pengobatan terutama terdiri dari perawatan suportif.
