Buenos dias from Buenos Aires your maxima amigita from Argentina Agostina is here. Today I have to tell you about something sad. One of our holy days is Memorial Day.  On our memorial day, which is a national holiday of mourning, we remember the victims of the guerra sucia, the Dirty War.  The Dirty War was a very painful time for Argentina.  In the years between 1976 and 1983 the government conducted a secret and evil program against many of its own citizens and depending on who you ask, the government killed or kidnapped between 9,000 and 30,000 Argentine citizens.  This was done in secrecy and was therefore referred to as forced disappearance, the victims are known as the disappeared.  Supposedly the Dirty War was conducted so that the Socialists and Communists could not take over Argentina and the rest of South America, but in reality the Dirty War was an excuse for the military government to remove any one who they did not like or who did not like the government.  It was a very brutal and cruel thing.  So every year we commemorate the ones who are disappeared and who were hurt by the government.  Hopefully, in this way, we can make sure it never happens again.
