Many people can remember the powerful representation from the masculine and feminine set forth through the tobacco industry in ads through the latter a part of the 20th Century. I found myself telling him what he "should" and "shouldn't" say and do - imposing restrictions that fit my narrow comfort zone. He bore this with great patience. Then one day as I was mulling over my judgments and creating a few more, the Oscar Wilde's phrase " all men eliminate the things they love." entered my mind. I vividly saw and felt what I was doing and why. I remarked that I needed to develop, within myself, ab muscles qualities that I had first admired in Bob then rejected.
This experience forced me to be acutely aware than it is a lose-lose situation to inquire about others to stop genuine pieces of themselves to fulfill our own comfort zone, and our most critical creative act would be to re-create ourselves by liberating ourselves from old coping patterns that inhibit the expression individuals highest potential.
