What is the Robotics in elder care - opportunities and ethical considerations?
As technology enters more and more into human life, people's need for technology also increases. The introduction of technology into people's lives not only makes the care of the elderly more efficient and effective, but also offers the opportunity to provide the elderly with more range and quality of life.Robots are increasingly being used in elder care to help older adults live independently and safely. Robots that can help older adults with daily tasks, monitor their health, and provide companionship are being developed. These robots could improve the lives of older adults and reduce the burden on caregivers. However, there are ethical concerns about privacy, job displacement, cost, and social impact.
Why should we research this topic?
As the world's population ages, the demand for elder care services is increasing. Robotics has the potential to revolutionize elder care, providing new and innovative ways to support elderly individuals and their caregivers. However, before we can fully embrace this technology, it is crucial to carefully examine the potential benefits and risks of using robots in elder care because the better we understand this issue, the better we can develop robots that will help the elderly. In this topic, we will learn that research on robotic technology in elderly care aims to create a more compassionate, efficient and effective elderly care system.
My research objectives;
⦁ Investigate the current state of robotics technology in elder care, including the types of robots being developed and their functionalities.
⦁ Examine the impact of robotics on the quality of life for older adults, exploring how robots can assist with daily tasks, monitor health, and provide companionship.
⦁ Assess the ethical considerations surrounding the use of robotics in elder care, with a focus on privacy concerns, job displacement, cost implications, and the potential social impact on elderly individuals and caregivers.
⦁ Explore the challenges and barriers to the widespread adoption of robotics in elder care, considering factors such as acceptance by older adults, regulatory frameworks, and technological limitations.
⦁ Propose recommendations for policymakers, healthcare professionals, and technology developers to ensure the responsible and ethical integration of robotics in elder care, balancing the benefits and risks to create a more compassionate, efficient, and effective elderly care system.
My research method;
We used a survey method in my research. The reason I used survey method in our research is because the subject we are researching affects the majority of people all over the world. So, in my research I used the survey method because the potential ethical risks and benefits we will investigate on this issue will affect not only the elderly but also the people who help them and live with them. I examined people of different economic status, social culture, gender, and age who has elder relative.
