Buzz Lightyear Movie Review
There's a lot of buzz about the new buzz lightyear movie. And for good reason: It marks a departure for Pixar as an animation studio, as they move into a more action-oriented genre with lots of lasers and explosions. But if the film lives up to its trailer, it will still deliver the same sort of heart and humor that fans have come to expect from this iconic film maker.

In this new take on the classic tale, we see that Buzz, who was accidentally left behind on a distant planet by his fellow Star Command astronauts after some hubris went wrong during an ill-fated piloting stunt (a bit similar to Tom Cruise's latest Top Gun misadventure), has devoted the next 60 years of his life to devising a working hyperspeed crystal formula so he can get himself and his crew home. During this time, we watch as each of his experiments slows down the passage of time for him (while everyone else on the planet has lived several more years). And in the end, when Buzz finally is able to rocket into hyperspeed, he realizes that all of those decades of testing and failure have rendered him just a day older than when he started.

Director Angus MacLane and screenwriter Pete Docter have done a solid job of modernizing the story without losing its core themes of honor, dedication, and teamwork. And Evans, who has the Captain America halo to match the confident hero, does a great job of conveying the same sense of selflessness and loyalty that we've all come to know and love.

But the real stars of this story are the lovable sidekicks who test Buzz's abilities to work with others and ask for help. From the hilariously matter-of-fact robo cat Sox to Keke Palmer's spitting image granddaughter Izzy and Taika Waititi's accident-prone Mo Morrison to Dale Soules' crusty criminal Darby Steel, they all add up to a delightful ragtag group who test our hero.

And though the film's villain (played by James Brolin, who also appears in the first trailer) is a bit of a weak link, we do see that the crew that Buzz brings together are all able to help him thwart his final plans. This is the kind of teamwork we have to hope for in every aspect of our lives, and that's a message worth spreading.


With state-of-the-art visuals, a great cast of characters, and a message that is sure to resonate with kids and adults alike, the new Buzz Lightyear movie has plenty to offer. It might not be as introspective as past Pixar films, but this is a fun adventure with all the hallmarks of a great family film. And ซีรี่ย์ 's a perfect way to kick off the summer movie season with a bang.
