I look up and see the sky is no longer clear
but filled with black smoke
the air I smell is no longer fresh
its musty and hard to inhale
my lungs are no longer clean
but filled with tart and grime
I pray to hear a glimpse of the sounds i once heard before my body was consumed by terror
but all that filled my ears was the loud bangs of 'the war'
mum helped me sign up she said
"it looks like an adventure worth taking"
as I lay on the cold merciless ground alone staring at the smoke filled sky
I wish I never showed mum the posters
I lay and romanticize the life i could of had
I come back to my senses as the pain from my wound becomes intense
I wish they mentioned this side of the army in the posters
as I feel my eyes grow heavy
I think how I would've loved to spend my 13th birthday with my mum and not alone on the cold mud slowly
passing.
