Reasons Why Your Nissan Qashqai Key Fob Won't Work
The Qashqai's greater dimensions give it a distinct SUV-like ambiance. Its ride on 19-inch alloy wheels on Ti and STL versions can also be firm. The front tyres in the Qashqai may also lose grip on bumpy surfaces, and the CVT could occasionally show wrist-flexing torque steering.
It is usually due to an unresponsive battery that can be replaced in a matter of minutes. Make sure the replacement battery is of the same voltage, size and specification.
Water Damage
Water damage is one of the most common reasons for a Nissan keyfob to display the "key ID is incorrect" message. The rubber seals on the key fob protect the chip's electronic circuit, but prolonged moisture exposure can cause it to stop working effectively. This is typically the situation if you've dropped your key fob into the ocean or into a swimming pools, but it could be the case if it gets wet due to soapy hands or rain.
If your key fob has been exposed to water for the course of a long time and you're not sure, clean it using isopropyl and electronic cleaner. It may also need to be taken to a professional for repair or replacement.
If your key fob does require replacement the process is simple. Make sure you have the right multipack (CR2032 3V). Open the front and rear cases with a flathead screwdriver. You'll need to take out the clips for retaining metal and push out the old battery, and then replace it with the new one. After reassembling your fob, put the mechanical key back into its place and make sure it works as expected. If it does not, you'll need to take it to a Nissan dealer or a professional auto locksmith for replacement of the chip in the key. Fortunately the chip isn't usually damaged by water exposure and therefore this shouldn't be a major expense.
Dead Coin Battery
Another reason that the reason your Nissan Qashqai key fob might not function is that the battery in the coin has gone dead. These batteries last 3-5 years, but they are prone to failure over time in the event that the fob has been frequentedly dropped. You could try replacing the battery with a fresh one, but make sure that it's the same size and voltage as the original. If you replace the battery, it may cause the key to be assigned a wrong key ID. This will prevent it from being paired with your vehicle.
The most effective method to replace the battery of a coin on the Nissan Qashqai key fob is by removing the key fob using a small flat head screwdriver. In the screwdriver, push it into tiny notch at the bottom of the fob and turn it around gently to separate the two parts of the key fob. Remove the old CR2025 battery and replace it with a brand new one, making note of the position of the previous one inside the fob.
Examine the terminals for dirt or water damage prior to installing the new battery. If not, clean the terminals using a small amount isopropyl ethanol. You'll also need to ensure that the pole cables are plugged in correctly - they should be connected to the negative and positive poles of your battery, respectively.
Troubleshooting
If your Nissan Qashqai key fob stops working after exposure to clean rain or tap water it could be a sign of an internal chip problem. You'll require a new fob if you can't solve the issue by replacing the battery. If the key fob has stopped working after you dropped it, it's likely that the chip inside was damaged. It is possible to get the key fob back to work again if you remove and clean the chip using alcohol and paper towels, then put it back in.
One common error you may see on your dashboard is "Key ID Not Correct." The vehicle is unable to recognize the key fob, and consequently, won't allow the vehicle to start. This problem could be caused in various ways, including water damage, malfunctions that are not detectable in the key fob's circuitry or RFID interference.
If the 12 volt battery in your key fob empty or isn't supplying enough electric current, it will stop working. This will affect the remote keyless system and central locking of your Nissan Qashqai, as well as hindering you from starting the engine with the key fob (if equipped with Intelligent Key). Check the battery in the key fob if you're not able to lock or unlock your door by hand. You could also try reinstalling the battery to reset your transmitter.
Reprogramming
Unless the key fob has been submerged in salt water, it should be able to return to life after a quick rinse with clean water. You can also try cleaning the electronic chip using isopropyl alcohol or an electronic cleaner. If none of these works it could be time to replace the entire key fob with a new one.
If your Nissan Intelligent Key is still not functioning, there may be a problem with the connection between it and your car. Start by turning G28 Car Keys without beginning the car. Continue this process until you see the warning lights flash twice. Then, turn off the vehicle and remove the key.
Then, you need to then open the fob compartment in your vehicle. It's usually located on a door's jamb or driver's door handle. Find the small button marked "program" and press it. Once the process is completed, you should hear an audible sound.
Now that your Intelligent Key is relinked to the car now is the time to try it out. Make sure you press all the buttons on the key while at a distance from the car. If the lights flash and the horn beeps this means that the key has successfully connected to the Nissan. You may also try testing it in close proximity.
