Why Lamborghini Huracan Car Key Could Be More Dangerous Than You Believed
The Keylab is a Supercapacitor Hybrid

By Lamborghini standards, the Sian FKP 37 is a wild car. It's also one of the first production hybrids to utilize the supercapacitor.

A 34-hp electric motor built into the manual auto transmission powers the Sian with speeds of up to 80 mph when the V-12 takes over. This system lets the car accelerate immediately and is more efficient.

Forged Composites

The Sian's Hybrid System comes with an additional feature in its sleeve which is Supercapacitors. It can recharge faster than lithium ion batteries, and the car can run for up to 63 second with electric power.

Lamborghini's composites that are forged are the crucial element in making this happen and the material could eventually be used in regular production vehicles. It begins as a sheet of uncured plastic, which is then mixed with short lengths of carbon fiber that are randomly placed strands. It's not as appealing as pre-woven sheets of carbon fiber that are pre-impregnated with resin, but it's more flexible and lighter.

To bring the forged carbon fiber into shape, the operators simply cut off the correct amount of mass, then place it in a hot press mold, then squeeze it under pressure. It takes only a few minutes, however it can take several hours to make the same part using traditional methods.

Lamborghini claims that its production-friendly material could result in more affordable products in the future. It's certainly expensive already, but if the manufacturing process is scaled up it could help save money in terms of both materials and labor. Forged composites are also more flexible than carbon fiber weave and engineers can design complicated shapes without the need to add weight or expense.

Carbon Skin

The Lamborghini Sian is a sleek roadster with a futuristic look that optimizes aerodynamic efficiency. The long, sculpted contours of the Lamborghini Sian and its distinctive aero wings create a powerful profile. Its low front and integrated splitter made of carbon fiber can also improve stability. The hexagonal headlights and Y-shaped headlights designs are classic Lamborghini features that further highlight the car's distinctive style. The interior is a blend of luxurious Italian craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology. The dashboard and the driver's seat are covered in a distinct material called Carbon Skin, which is customizable thanks to the Ad Personam program.

The Sian's unique hybrid system is powered by a supercapacitor which combine the power of an electric motor with the efficiency of a battery with a voltage of 48 volts. Its quick-fire torque fills in gaps in acceleration, and its regenerative brake recharges the battery. This allows the Sian to travel longer distances on a single tank of gas.

Comparing it to a standard lithium-ion battery, Sian's supercapacitor has three times more power and can be recharged in just 63 seconds. It is also smaller and lighter. The supercapacitor is located in the bulkhead that separates the engine compartment from the cabin, is powered by a motor of 34 horsepower that is located on the rear of an automatic transmission.

The Lamborghini Sian was based on Aventador SVJ. This means that it has the same V12 engine. It has a similar suspension and chassis and the same four-wheel-drive. The hybrid powertrain that Sian uses is what makes it stand out.

Ad Personam

The Sian Lamborghini's first hybrid car and it's a bold statement of intent. The latest creation of the raging bull uses supercapacitor tech to bring down its power-to weight ratio without reducing its incredibly powerful V-12 engine.

Ad Personam is a program that enables Lamborghini to customise its vehicles for its most loyal customers. This includes everything from leathers to exterior and interior finishes to specific paint colors and all of it must meet the brand's strict quality standards.

A full spec sheet can be online, and a consultation can be scheduled at the Sant'Agata Bolognese headquarters or through a virtual studio. The latter was designed to allow customers around the globe to schedule an individual spec session with the team without needing to travel all the way to Sant'Agata.

The name Sian is a Bolognese word meaning lightning. It's a homage to the brand's past and future. The alphanumeric suffix, FKP37, honors Ferdinand Karl Piech. He was the man who brought Lamborghini to the Volkswagen Group and died just before the launch of Sian. Only 63 cars were built, and they are all sold out.

Specs

The Sian is based off the Aventador SVJ. It has the same V12, chassis, and suspension. However, it adds an electric motor that is small to make it a hybrid. It can run on electric power only at lower speeds and use gasoline engine to accelerate when required.

The supercapacitor is located in the bulkhead, which separates the cabin from the engine compartment. It is three times more powerful and lighter than a battery with similar weight. The system recharges itself on the move via regenerative braking which means it doesn't have to be connected to an electrical grid. The emotor is able to fill the torque gap for upshifts so that the car can go 10 percent faster than without it.

Lamborghini says the design of the hybrid Sian is meant to convey the feeling of pure open-top energy. The exterior has a blend of orange paint and carbon fiber as well as the roof, which is a glass panel inspired by the Periscopio on the early Countach prototypes. Other highlights include aluminum components painted in Oro Electrum, which is the color Lamborghini uses to distinguish its hybrid cars.

Mitja Borkert, Lamborghini's head of design, has designed the cockpit for the Sian. It's more wild than the usual Lamborghini and features lots of creases and cutouts. It's a car that is almost comical in its appearance, nevertheless, it's very appealing. The infotainment screen is oriented vertically and has a button-free steering with huge paddle shifters.
