Reasons Why Your Nissan Qashqai Key Fob Won't Work
The Qashqai has a distinct SUV-like feel due to its bigger dimensions, and the ride on 19-inch wheels in Ti and ST-L models can be a bit firm at times. The front tyres of the Qashqai may also lose grip on rough surfaces and its CVT can sometimes show wrist-flexing torque steering.
It is usually caused by the battery of a coin that is dead. It can be repaired in a matter of minutes. Make sure that the new battery has the same size, voltage, and specification.
Water Damage
One of the main reasons a Nissan key fob gives the "key ID is not correct" message is due to water damage. The rubber seals on the key fob shield the chip's electronic components, however prolonged exposure to moisture can cause it not to work effectively. It's normal to see this happen if your key fob was dropped into the water or a swimming pool. It can also happen when it gets wet from rain or soapy hands.
If your key fob has been exposed to water for the course of a long time it is possible to clean it using isopropyl and electronic cleaner. It may also need to be sent to a specialist for repair or replacement.
If your key fob require replacement the process is simple. First, ensure that you have a multipack of the correct battery (CR2032 3V). Then, open the front and back cases with a small flathead screwdriver. You'll need to take out the metal retaining clips and then push out the old battery, then insert the new one. Reassemble the fob and replace the mechanical key. Verify that it is working properly. If not then you'll have to take it to your local Nissan dealer or a professional locksmith to replace the chip in the key. Fortunately the chip isn't usually damaged by water exposure and this shouldn't cost you a lot.
Dead Coin Battery
The coin battery is a second frequent reason why your Nissan Qashqai remote key fob may not work. They typically last for 3 to 5 years, but they are susceptible to becoming depleted over time, particularly if the fob is frequently dropped. You can try replacing the battery with a fresh one, but make sure it's the same size and voltage as the original. If you're using a different battery it may cause the key to have an incorrect key ID which can prevent it from paired with your vehicle.
The best method to replace the battery in a Nissan Qashqai key fob is by opening the key fob using an small screwdriver that has a flat head. The screwdriver should be inserted into a small notch on the bottom of your key fob. Make sure to gently twist the screwdriver to break the two halves. Remove G28 Car Keys and replace it with a new one, observing the position of the old one in the fob.
Examine the terminals for dirt or water damage prior to installing the new battery. If there is, clean the terminals with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol. Make sure that the pole cables are properly connected. They must be connected to the negative and the positive poles of your battery.
Troubleshooting
If your Nissan Qashqai key fob stops working after exposure to clean tap water or rain it could be an indication of a chip problem inside the. The battery replacement won't fix this, and you'll need to buy a new key fob. If the key fob stopped working after dropping it, it's likely that the chip inside was damaged. It is usually possible to get the key fob back to work once again if it is removed and clean the chip using paper towel and isopropyl alcohol before putting it back into.
One common error you might see on your car's dashboard is "Key ID Incorrect." This means that the car cannot recognize the key fob, and will not allow it to start the engine. The issue could be caused by several things including water damage, undetectable problems in the key fob's circuitry or RFID interference.
If the battery that powers 12 volts inside your key fob is broken or is not supplying enough electric power it will cease to function. This could affect the remote keyless system and central locking in your Nissan Qashqai, as well as preventing you from starting the engine using the key fob (if equipped with Intelligent Key). If you are unable to lock or unlock the door by hand it is recommended to check the batteries in your key fob to make sure they are in good shape. Try installing the battery again to reset your transmitter.
Reprogramming
If the key fob has not been submerged in salt water and is unable to be revived after a simple wash with clean water. You can also try cleaning the electronic chip with isopropyl alcohol or an electronic cleaner. If none of these works it could be time to replace the entire key fob with an entirely new one.
If your Nissan Intelligent Key still does not function, there may be a problem with the connection between it and your vehicle. To reconnect it, begin by turning the key in the ignition, but not starting the car. Continue this process until the hazard light flashes twice. Then, turn off the vehicle and take off the key.
Then, you need to then open the fob compartment in your vehicle. It's usually found on a door jamb or the handle for the driver's door. Find the small "program" button and press it. After the program is complete, you should hear an audible sound.
It's time to put your Intelligent Key to the test. Set your feet a distance from the vehicle, then click all of the buttons on the key. If the lights flash and the horn beeps it means the key has been successfully linked to the Nissan. You may also try testing it in close proximity.
