Reasons Why Your Nissan Qashqai Key Fob Won't Work
The Qashqai has a distinct SUV feel to it thanks to its larger dimensions. Additionally, the ride on 19-inch wheels in Ti and ST-L models can be a bit stiff at times. The front tyres of the Qashqai could also lose grip on bumpy surfaces, and the CVT could occasionally display wrist-flexing torque steering.
This is generally caused by a dead coin battery which is easily repaired in a matter of minutes. Be sure that the replacement battery is the same size, voltage and specifications.
Water Damage
Water damage is one of the most common reasons for the Nissan keyfob to display the "key ID is wrong" message. The rubber seals on the key fob are designed to protect the chip's electronics, but long-term exposure to moisture can cause it not to work correctly. This is typically the situation when you drop your key fob in the ocean or in a swimming water pool, but it could happen when it's wet from soapy hands or rain.
If your key fob has been exposed to water for a prolonged period of time, it might need to be cleaned using isopropyl alcohol, or electronic cleaner. It could also require to be sent to a professional for repair or replacement.
If your key fob does require replacement the process is easy. First, make sure you have an appropriate multipack battery (CR2032 3V). Unlock the front and rear cases using a flathead screwdriver. Remove the metal clips, take out the battery that was in place and replace it. Reassemble the fob and replace the mechanical key. Check that it works correctly. If it doesn't then you'll need to take it to a local Nissan dealer or a professional locksmith to replace the chip in the key. The chip isn't usually damaged by water and isn't too costly.
Dead Coin Battery
The coin battery is a second common reason that your Nissan Qashqai remote key fob won't work. These batteries usually last 3-5 years but can go bad over time, particularly if the fob is frequently dropped. You can replace the battery however, make sure it's the same voltage and same dimensions as the original. If you replace the battery, it could cause the key to be assigned an incorrect key ID. This could prevent it from being linked to your vehicle.
The best way to change the coin battery in the Nissan Qashqai Key Fob is to pry it open using the help of a small screwdriver with a flat head. Insert the screwdriver into a small notch at the bottom of the fob and twist gently to separate the two parts of the key fob. Then, remove the old CR2025 button cell battery and insert another one after confirming its position on the fob.
Check the terminals for any water damage or dirt before installing the new battery. If there is, wash the terminals with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol. Make sure that the pole cables are properly connected. They should be connected both the negative and the positive poles of your battery.
Troubleshooting
If your Nissan Qashqai's main fob stops working after exposure to clean tap or rain water it could be a sign there is a problem with the internal chip. Changing the battery won't fix this, and you'll need to buy the new key fob. If the key fob stopped working after dropping it, it is likely that the chip inside was damaged. If you clean the chip using isopropylethanol and paper towels and then insert it into the key fob, you can generally get it working.
Key ID Incorrect is a common error that you can see on the dashboard of your vehicle. The vehicle is unable recognize the key fob, and thus won't allow the vehicle to start. This can happen in numerous ways, including water damage, malfunctions that are not detectable within the key fob circuitry or RFID interference.
If replacement car key nissan that powers 12 volts on your key fob is empty or isn't supplying sufficient electric current, it will stop working. This can affect your Nissan Qashqai's keyless system central locking, as well as the ability to start the engine with the key fob. If you can't lock or unlock the door manually, you should check the batteries inside your key fob to make sure they are in good shape. You can also try re-inserting the battery to reset the transmitter.
Reprogramming
If the key fob was not submerged in saltwater, it should be able be restored to its original state by a simple wash of clean water. You can also clean the electronic component using isopropyl or electronic cleaner. If none of these works, you may have to replace the key fob.
If your Nissan Intelligent Key is still not functioning, there may be an issue with the connection between it and the car. Start by turning the ignition switch without beginning the car. Continue doing this until you see the danger lights flash twice. Then, turn off the vehicle and take off the key.
Then, you need to open the fob compartment in your vehicle. It's usually located in a door jamb, on the driver's side door handle or underneath an armrest. Find the small "program" button and press it. You should hear a chime when the process is completed.
Now that your Intelligent Key is relinked to the car is the time to test it out. You must stand a certain distance away from the vehicle and click all of the buttons on the key. If the lights flash or the horn sounds, then the key is successfully connected to the Nissan. It is also possible to test the key in close proximity.
